Question When did your bub move into his/her own room?

DS has slept in his bassinet/cot in our bedroom since he was born. I've loved having him in the same room as us - hearing him breathing in the middle of the night, and only having to walk a few steps to get him out of his cot for a feed in the middle of the night. However, just recently I've been starting to think about him moving into his own room. DH and I are getting sick of creeping around trying to be as quiet as possible when we go to bed, and we're both missing being able to read in bed, talk in bed, etc.
DS still wakes an average of 2-3 times a night, but I'm also wondering if him sharing a room with us could be causing the waking. I've had a few other mums say their bubs started sleeping through (or waking less) when they moved into their own rooms.
I think my biggest concern is not being able to hear DS as soon as he stirs, and whether the night feeds will be a bit of a pain if he's in his own room.

I guess what I'm wondering is what age did you move your bub into his/her own room? How did bub (and you) adjust? Did you find bub slept any better?

DS2 is on our room, he is nearly 2 months now and I am thinking when we wil move him.... not sure yet when this will be he seems so small to move (as his room is a few rooms away from me)
DS1 we moved by accident - he was in a moses basket and I put him in his room a few times at about 8 wks before i went to bed (intended to move him into our room when i went to bed). I found he slept really well when in his room so i left him there... and then after a few nights he was in there all night. it wasnt actually my intention, i thougth he'd be in with us til at least 3 months prob 6. but it worked and he slept well there (later is another story LOL).
Do you have amonitor for him? if so you will hear him immediately if he wakes. I still use one for DS1 and he is nearly 2 and in the room next to ours. I have just bought one for DS2 - i use it when he is sleeping in our room in the day and i want to be somewhere else in the house and will also use it when he goes into his room (i guess when he outgrows the moses basket as his cot wont go in our room)

I do have a monitor that I use through the day, but at night it just doesn't seem the same iykwim? I guess I'm just quite torn at the moment. I want to have that freedom of having my room to myself, but it will feel so far away having DS in another room - I don't know if I'm quite ready for it.

DS sleeps in his cot in our room during the day by himself, so I guess he can sleep by himself okay - I think it's more me that has the problem, lol.

I moved ds into his own room at 6 months for pretty much the same reasons that you mentioned (and i wanted some sort of sex life back )

At first, i couldnt sleep, it was too quiet. I too was worried that i wouldnt be able to hear ds when he stired but i could and still can hear him even if its just a little sigh. I think we are just tuned in out bub also. He is in the room next to us and i leave his door and our door alittle ajar.

Its hard to say about the sleeping better as ds still wakes 2-3 times at night but i think its a little bit true for us. I know dh and i sleep better.

I was worried about the hassle of getting up to feed ds in the middle of the night as it was just so easy to pop him into bed with us and breasfeed but tbh, its not that bad to get up and go into his room to do it. I just leave my dressing gown on the floor beside the bed and when i hear him cry out i get up and put it on and off i go. I do have a comfy rocking chair in his room to feed in also.

In the end, i'm glad i moved him but it took me a while to get used to it. I missed having him there so close to me but i knew he couldnt stay in our room forever. I though he would have an issue with being moved but he settled in straight away although he looked so tiny in the big cot lol.

We moved DD into her cot at 3 months. Like your DS she was waking but 4-5 times a night and i was just exhausted. - For us, moving her to her cot was the best move. Her wakes up went to 2 times a night and now its only once a night (unless she's teething or going through a growth spurt). - So i guess to answer your question, for us, yes she slept better once in her own room and the night feeds (she now wakes between 11.30pm-12.30am) aren't too bad, as DH gets her, changes her nappy i feed her then she goes back down in her cot til about 7.30-8.00am - We hear her as soon as she stirs as the monitor is on full blast, so even if she sneezes we here it!

DD went straight into her cot in her own room the first night home from hospital (5 days old)

DS slept in a bassinette in our room for a week after coming home from hospital due to my mum staying over & she slept in his room. As soon as she left he went into his own room.

I leave the bedroom doors open through the night & can hear every little noise both my children make (even them rolling over ) but maybe have a montior in your room for a while if you're scared you might not hear him?

    Good Luck

DS went straight into his own room, DD has only gone into her own room this week and she is sleeping way better - nly waking once and resettling herself most of the time. The house we are now in is way bigger than our old one when we had DS, and it was Winter so was too cold to walk through the house to feed her hence the main reason she was with us!

DS went into his own room at 6 months. I adjusted pretty quickly I guess..... his room is literally right next door to ours, we have a breathing monitor and a normal baby monitor (OTT I know ). His sleep didn't improve though so I had to get used to running into his room to settle him.

Mostly she slept in her own room from only a couple of weeks old - I wanted the basinett next to me but I wasn't getting ANY sleep - I kept checking every noise to see if it was a problem, or if there wasn't any noise I'd check to see if she was breathing, so for my sanity we moved her. (PS- I still hear EVERYTHING that's important even across the hall - mothers ears are tuned in) But she's still slept in our room on and off I'd say 15% of the time for various reasons- and yes, we get a lot more sleep when she's in her room. She knows we're there if she's with us so when she wakes between sleep cycles (to start with I can hear her stirring which wakes me anyway) but also she will wake up and whinge for me, whereas she just goes back to sleep and sleeps from 7 - 7 if she's in her own room. I guess different things work for different people. It IS annoying having to walk to her room if she does wake though.

I planned to have DS in our room in the cradle for at least 3 months or so, but we ended up moving him into his own room at about 1 week old. He slept heaps better straight away....and so did we. Neither DP or I could get any sleep with DS making all his normal little baby noises through the night. And he disturbs very easily too, so we didn't have to tiptoe around anymore. He's right next door to us so we hear him when he wakes.

    Thanks for all your replies

I think I've decided (gee, don't I sound committed, lol) to move DS into his own room. We still need to do a few things to finish off his room, but once they're done we'll move him in... or maybe that's just my excuse to hold off just a little longer .

I'm gonna miss him, but I think it's time .

GL with it hun! I also moved DD at around 6.5 months and we all sleep better because of it!

She still wakes once a night (but last night it was 3 times with teething) and one thing I found helpful for the night feeds was to put a comfy sofa bed in her room with a blanket. That way I am still warm and toastie when I'm feeding her, and when she's sick, I can sleep in that bed with her.

The first night we moved her I didn't sleep, but now I prefer it! She still comes into bed with us in the morning, and DH actually gets a full night sleep (so at least one of us is functioning!)
