    When to give a pillow?

DS is nearly 15 months, and I think he would like a pillow in his cot. He co sleeps about half of the night, and he's constantly dragging himself up onto our pillows in his sleep (usually DHs hehe). He sleeps much more soundly when he's on our pillows. He's not a huge fan of sleeping in his cot, and he's a VERY restless sleeper. Constantly moving around, and trying to sleep with his head on his teddies! So it really looks to me like he would benefit from having a pillow......

But I have no idea if it's 'safe' at this age? Opinions and epxeriences would be great please

I think if he is mobile (i.e. rolling over etc) then give him a pillow. By the sounds of it, he really would like a pillow. Is probably more comfortable with his head raised.

You can buy toddler pillows from Kmart & Target or even just a thin pillow would be suitable.

i was goin to ask the same thing DS now 10 1/2 months and had been sleeping on his back with no movement during the night, until about two weeks ago does laps of the cot and ends up on his stomach or side-usually with his hands under his cheeks so he gets big impressions lol.

I think I always heard 18 months - 2 years for a pillow, but DD1 went into a single bed at 13 months & had a pillow then.
    I think DD2 was around 18 months.
DS is only 4 1/2 months & sleeps with a pillow sometimes through the day. Only where I can see him though.

DS has had a flat infant style pillow from about 10 months but prefers our pillows too so he has had a slightly thicker pillow since about 1yo. The thicker pillow is in the cot now (not that he is most of the night) and the flat one is in our bed in the middle of our pillow but again, he prefers our pillow and "sharing" with us. Currently he is asleep on the lounge (oh yay - no sleeping tonight ) on a cushion.

I'll say it again Michelle, I think our boys were seperated at birth LOL! Yep, sharing pillows is so much fun! Hope you get more sleep than you anticipate tonight

Looks like I'm off to buy a pillow tomorrow LOL! Thanks for your help ladies

I think so too - are you sure we gave birth in different states in different months LOL At least I know where to go for a sanity check when things are really tough here. I know you are suffering too

    *laughing with a hysterical tinge*

Oh yeah, sick AGAIN here this weekend, I think it's a virus. So not alot of sleep here either. High temps and restlessness through the night. Has that 2nd tri buzz and glow kicked in yet? I ask that with my tongue firmly in my cheek, as I never experienced it LOL. I hope you are though, you deserve it!

That 2nd tri glow is the recurrent fevers I have had with the repeated viruses I have picked up. Viruses here too with nasty nappy rash and (most likely) another tooth. A shame he is doing them one at a time

We gave our DS a pillow (junior/toddler type) during the day sleeps from about 19 months old and he loves it...we also put him to bed with it at night (in the cot) but take it out, although in saying that he's woken the last two nights looking for it so I think it's time to leave it in now (he's 22 months)... He seems to sleep better with it during the day at least.

like the others have said sounds like he is ready...
I think the general rule is if they are ready for a "big bed" they are ready for a pillow.
but i cant see it being a problem if he already pulls himself to your pillow and also he can move his head around so its not like he will get stuck!

when ds (who's 11.5mths) sleeps in our bed, he sleeps ON the pillow! Some how he migrates onto it!

I wanted to give him one soonish, but he sleeps all over the cot so there is really no point!!

    Good luck choosing a pillow!
