I have done none for Harmony.

She is in no risk group, and in this epidemic, majority of people who have it are immunised, so didn't want all those chemicals in her for no reason. Thats just our choice.
I will consider vac later on, when her tiny body can handle all those poisons better. But for a b'fed koala baby, there was no need.

We got everything done for our DS (plus a few that are not offered to the general population) as he was in hospital with heart and other surgeries for the first four months. He was/is obviously a high risk baby so need all the protection he could get.

I am preg again and this time I am going to look into all the diseases that we are offered vaccinations for and see if I would want my baby to get them or not. Ie chicken pox was too much of a risk to my DS's life but that now means that we have to do boosters later. So if this baby is healthy (please God) then maybe chicken pox will be ok to leave off the list.

But with most of them we will definately be getting bubs immunized. To me its just not worth the risk of the disease.

Its a big decision though and good on you for making the effort to figure out what is important for your bub.

I got them all....only cos our surgery has all of them in one needle (except 1 which is seperate but one i feel is needed). Roto virus id always have...its oral and i say its helped DD2 avoid the gastro bug alot. DD1 gets it bad but DD2 seems to avoid nasty cases of it.

I got them all. Your MCHN should run through the scheduled ones and tell you what the diseases are etc. You can pick and choose which one your DD receives if you like...There are two needles and then the rotavirus orally. My DD was fine...just a little bit sleepy the next day.

I got them all too. They were all combined in two needles and one oral dose for Rotavirus. (whooping cough).

I don't like the idea of my little girl getting all those things into her little tiny body either but I weigh out the risks and I feel that the risks involved in
getting the immunisations are very small compared to what could happen if she got sick with one of those viruses/illnesses.... and the complications that can occur with those illnesses.

We didn't get the rotavirus vaccine. For us, I didn't think that was neccessary as I don't believe she is at significant risk of being exposed the virus (doesn't go to cc, or in contact with a lot of kids etc). Plus I do find it odd that it can only be given at a certain age, what makes it safe then and not when they are older?!

I'm sure whatever choice you make it will work out being the right one for her x

None - but I also made the choice to limit contact in public places and with other children for the 1st year for both of them.

Hep B for example ausgirl. There was no way my child would be having sex or using IV drugs as a newborn.

Dee, its one of the reasons I won't bring the kids over all the time, Blue is cosy tucked up at home, but my kids are out in kinder etc all the time and could expose him to things that he wont be vacced for as yet. My choice is my choice but I wont be responsible for passing something on to a tiny baby, and stuffing up your choices - feel me?

ETA - Anna, it was the oral vaccine one. Gawd my brain is busted today....!

As Lulu said, what are the chances of my baby, in this day and age, of catching Hep B as a newborn?? Massively unlikely, so the risk is greater that she will have a reaction, than actually get Hep B. Same with Polio. Much higher chance of something in the vac harming her, than her getting Polio.

Japan has the highest health rate of babies in the world now, since they stopped all vac's till 2 years of age, which is where most sociability and cc kick in over there. So am considering following thier lead.

The US, having the highest Vac rate in the worl, has plummeted to the equivelent of a third world country since starting to mass Vac, with baby deaths. Food for thought.

Hon the study I found wasn't about sids, it was purely on Vac.

ahhhhhh........ I still don't know what to do. I need more time! If I do decide to get them they'll be a bit late coz I'm not ready to get them yet.

For those who haven't vaccinated their kids what precautions do you have to take?? DD won't be in childcare or anything so that's ok but I can just see myself worrying all the time when ppl hold her if she's going to catch something!! I'm so petrified of whooping cough but also the vaccine for it!! Wow, this is a really tough decision.

Also, what do u do when u have older kids at school and then a baby, what if the older kids bring something home?

Thanks for that Pretty Butterfly. I am confused when articles and research papers state "infant mortality" because I have read so many articles that discuss the positioning of the US and Japan in the ranking of infant mortality, but I am unsure if they mean mortality from everything, or just from vax related diseases? I was looking into vax and SIDS and came across those stats used to describe the rise in SIDS with mass vax (and the decrease in SIDS when Japan raised vax age). Bad research on my part to assume the paper I was reading had independent statistics (I have corrected my post accordingly...sorry if I have confused anyone!)

As far as I can tell this idea of ranking infant mortality comes from the UN world population prospects reports, which looks at all causes of infant death (the most common worldwide being pnemonia currently and then dehydration, but includes SIDS, infection, infanticide etc). Please correct me if I am wrong though...I am interested because so many vax articles cite infant mortality rates without necessarily isolating the rates of specific diseases.
