Janie, our DD co-slept with us from birth. Around 6 weeks ago now, we went and bought a toddler bed from Babyco. She loves it and I can't believe she sleeps in it through day and night now. It's quite funny how she just went straight in the toddler bed. She never went in a cot, hated it!
So....I hope the transition is as easy for you as it was for our DD!
Sounds like bringing in the pillow now is a good idea. No harm in trying I guess.
Will go out and get one this weekend, might give it to him for xmas present.. haha.. add it to his presents under the tree.
With the bed thing, I will hold out as long as possible because I think DS will get up and walk around the house and come into our room in the middle of the night. Might wait till he is nearly three before buying him a bed.
My DS is only 7 months, so doesnt have a pillow yet...but I just wanted to post an idea that I had from reading this thread.
I am going to buy a flat baby pillow before he needs it and put it in my bed so that when DS is ready for a pillow it will have my scent, maybe will help him sleep better in his cot as he gets a big bigger, he is not sleeping through yet and we co-sleep most the night.
Sonia, I made the pillow slip myself just with some pretty fabric I had lying around. I then bought some pillow fluffing and stuffed it. The fluffing is washable so I just wash the whole pillow including the fluffing when it gets dirty.
My DD co-slept from birth and then went straight into the toddler bed no problems at all. She never went in the cot, hated it with a passion. And we don't CC here. Co-sleeping was not working well anymore - we were getting kicked constantly and all suffered bad sleep because of that so we tried the bed and WOW, she loves it. The pillow didn't have my scent on it at all and the transition was great. However, every baby is different. Just letting you all know that there were no issues here, just tried the pillow brand new and she took to it brilliantly.
