I just waited until my DS was ready - it was a nightmare when people tried to talk me into starting earlier. Who cares DS was in nappies longer than his mates? No-one cares now he is trained.
But seriously, compliant children exist? Who nap and eat and play and do stuff when YOU want, not when they want? Don't believe that one.
Im out of my depth here having only taught the one kid but DD does go through phases of I am not sitting on a damn toilet I want to wee where the dog does So when those times comes I have found only just a few weeks back that when she is on the toilet and in one of these moods, I tickle her legs with a feather, I might use a scarf or something with a bit more texture. In the beginning we just started to put her on after naps etc and made sure that she either had books to read, songs to sing or stuff to touch all so she wasnt as aware of the potty.
Good luck but remember she will work it out, you wont be changing nappies in 5 years
I have a rather challenging DS. I think DD is my reward for not strangling him some days
With TT him, I took his lead. At kindy, they put all the kids on the toilet straight after every nappy change. One day he just started doing wees when they put him on so we carried on at home from there. We made a big deal of it - "If you do a wee on the toilet, you can wear your big boy undies!!!" and if he did a wee "Yayyyy Claps for DS". He has always refused a potty so we got him a little step & seat for the toilet which he was excited about. Now he won't use the seat either. He reckons he has a "big bum" so he'll only sit directly on the toilet. Ah who cares, he's using it! We still struggle trying to convince him to sit on the toilet some days but he is improving. We are only a few months in though so accidents are to be expected.
Maybe introduce her to the toilet slowly when you change her nappies. One day it'll click. I wouldn't try to force it on her though, if she's not ready.
We're in the same boat here, Nina...DD's just not interested. She'll do a wee on 'cue' when she gets into the bath and sometimes after going for a swim but other than that she'd sit in a wet or pooey nappy all day if she could.
I plan to buy her some big girl undies and let her get around the house in those now that the weather's warming up- hopefully, the feeling of being wet will help her to get the idea...we'll see. I figure she'll get it one day
