Strep B is transient therefore you may have it now and not at the birth. My Ob was a high risk/infertility specialist Ob (when I thought I needed the best I could get) and he said he never even bothers testing for strep b due to it being transient and he will only give ab's to high risk women (waters ruptured for some time, prem babe etc). He said he can tell if a babe has contracted strep b as they have a distinct smell to them.

Abs will also mess up the baby's gut flora.

Check out the garlic / vaginal infections thread. They believe this could help with strep B as well as thrush and asking women to contact them with results

Just wanted to pop back in and say i found out this week that the hossy is giving me a shot of ABs pushed through a canula not an IV run over a number of hours! I'm pleased cause I was not impressed with idea of shuffling around with an IV pole!
I had them intravenously with dd but that was cause I was induced and had the drip in anyway.
Active water birth is looking positive!!

    Sorry Hun crashed your thread

On a recent Facebook status I posted: "E-coli is now the leading cause of neonatal infection, NOT GBS!!! #ican2011"

Someone replied with this: "This very reason is why the UK stopped routinely giving antibiotics to GBS positive mothers, instead watching baby for signs ands symptoms or testing the blood looking for markers. They had to high of an increase in E-coli infections, which is so much more serious for these little babies."

I was tested negative for GBS at 38 weeks and my first little man still got it (born at 41 weeks) so Kelly is right, it does come and go. I almost lost my little man to it. He was in NICU for a week after he was born and was a very sick little boy. It was such a shock to everyone. It was really horrible and something I would never want to go through again. I have since had AB's before I had my babies, just for safety sake even though I know the chances would be slim of having another baby with GBS. Its just not something I want to risk again

I just found out I've tested positive too! Grrr!! The MW told me i can't labour at home for too long cause I will need the four hours before bubs is born!!! I just hope it doesn't interfere too much with being mobile throughout labour.
So what happens if your labor is less then four hours? Do you have to hold bub in?
