I read the book, and did the course with hubby. The relaxation techniques worked well for me during my induction, until I lost focus and grabbed some gas for a little while before I started to push. The "birthing breaths" were beyond me...
As Sammiejane said, you will need your partner, or support person on board with this and you do need to practice in the lead up. We used a differnt CD to the one in the book.
It is worth the read anyway, the comments on Fear - tension - pain that we are conditioned to expect and how that has not always been the case changed my view on what to expect and how to think through what was going to happen. The course was worth the $$ to us, the relaxation / visulation techniques will be useful always through out life, not just in labour.
