Question Anyone read Hypnobirthing -The Mongan Method....

I've looked into doing a Hypno/Calmbirthing class, but the prices are too high for what we can afford right now.

I've just come across a book written by Marie Mongan and am wondering if anyone has read it??

    TIA

Tan - we don't have a book or anything, but my hypnobirthing middie gave me a folder of stuff that I can send down to you if you like? Its taken from the Mongan method.

Its here if you want it! (I could send it down with Silent Knife - DH has finished reading the bits he wanted to out of it!!)

    Lemme know

I've read it and I do have it (although I think my next door neighbour currently has it). My hypnobirthing practitioner used it as a basis.

    Hi Ladies,

Im not sure if this is the same thing, I was so young when I did it...but I had hypnotherapy for my birth with DS. It was amazing!!!! My therapist gave me the choice of either feeling the pain and being able to cope with it, or not feeling the pain at all. I chose to feel the pain but no be bothered by it and to go inside myself...sort of self hypnotism. The experience was quite surreal actually. I could feel the contractions, but whilst they were happening I was able to visualise some of the things I saw in my head whilst I was hypnotised. I was actually hypnotised when I was in labour, it was a very calm and out of body experience! I was able to totally block out everything around me and focus on the images in my head. It was almost like I could see my path ahead of me and I travelled down it and listened to my inner voice the whole time. I highly recommend it.

Sorry if this is not what you are talking about.

Tanstar, i read the book loads and also did a CD that a friend lent me.

I though that this was the way to go, the only problem was, my birth partners didnt practice with me and when it came to the labour it all went out the window.

The reason we didnt do any classes or courses was $$ too... IMO i would scrape together the money so that it is consolidated properly in your head and also your birth partners.
Next time around i will find the money from somewhere so that i can give it a proper go... and hopefully get the birth that i wanted first time around

ETA the book really was great and made me rethink a lot of things... if you have the support and practice together it should make a difference - you can also get hypnobirthing CD's at JB HIFI, dont know what they are like thou

I read the book, and did the course with hubby. The relaxation techniques worked well for me during my induction, until I lost focus and grabbed some gas for a little while before I started to push. The "birthing breaths" were beyond me...

As Sammiejane said, you will need your partner, or support person on board with this and you do need to practice in the lead up. We used a differnt CD to the one in the book.

It is worth the read anyway, the comments on Fear - tension - pain that we are conditioned to expect and how that has not always been the case changed my view on what to expect and how to think through what was going to happen. The course was worth the $$ to us, the relaxation / visulation techniques will be useful always through out life, not just in labour.
