Hun, go in to Delivery Suite and/or ring your doctor right away. I did have a secondary postpartum haemorrhage at 1 week after delivery. Like you, the lochia was almost nothing before then. Please get it checked out. No, it is NOT a period and has nothing to do with not breastfeeding. Lie down, see if you can massage the top of your uterus (it will feel like a hard cricket ball in the bottom of your tummy) and ring or go in THIS MORNING.

Noni - firstly congrats asgain on the birth of Asha!!! Your bleeding sounds normal hun and is called your lochia - it isnt your period and it may last quite a few weeks - up to 6 weeks actually - I had a c/s and still had 6 weeks of it. As for the H - go to the chemist and get some cream (Rectinol or Hem something - big help it should clear it up for you. Not sure about your tear and graze hun - hopefully someone else will able to help with that. As you said its only been 6 days so make sure are resting up lots!!

ETA- Reading the previous post - maybe you should call your hospital or gp and see what they say - I thought bleeding like that was normal but could be wong - sorry hun.

My bleeding stopped about a week after giving birth too, for a few days, and then started up even heavier. It gradually eased off and now five weeks after the birth there is not a lot coming out.
I was lucky to have no tearing, but I did have two small grazes and they also bled a little bit for a couple of weeks. I actually got a mirror and while I was in the shower washed myself with water down there, and then had a look at the grazes just to make sure it wasn't excessive blood or anything.

thanks guys i just passed a clot and things seem to have slowed down.. im going to the gp today anyway for Ashas one week check up so i'll mention it to him when we are there.. feeling fine no pains or anything so i think i just had a little freak out for nothing lol as you do lol..
i am pretty sure now the blood is not coming from the graze, had a good wash in the shower and the graze is on the labia so once everything was cleaned up it was easy to see theres only a small amount of blood coming from it....

Nonie - definitely a good thing to get it checked just in case, but the bleeding has probably just got heavier/clottier (is that even a word?!?!) now because you're probably moving around a little bit more. I found when I came home from hospital I went from fairly moderate blood loss to ewwwwwwww, all because I was moving around at home, going for walks with my new bubby etc. All normal and like Tan says, lasted way too long - just over 6 weeks for me.

noni, always a good idea to get checked, but, like some of the other girls have mentioned, it does sound normal. I had the same, bleeding slowed right down, and, then about 10 days after birth, it went back to being heavy, and some small clots again.
