Does anything...and I mean anything at all hurt more than child birth?

I actually didn't feel "pain" during giving birth. I have however felt pain so excruiating I almost blacked out.... at the dentist. Also one of my tattoos hurt HEAPS.

Def have experienced worse pain.
1 - was a ruptured appendix.
2 was a knee reconstruction, as the pain didn't end for weeks on end.

I think having your heart broken is alot worse than childbirth...

That question makes me uncomfortable actually, as I think that focussing on the pain causes a lot of fear in pg women and this usually translates into a bad birthing experience. Personally my second birth was more painful due to not having an epidural as I did the first time. Yet it was a far more satisfying experience and I enjoyed it far more. I think, due to the context, the pain in childbirth is different to anything else you will experience. And it certainly is something which is manageable and well worth it.

try crashing your bike 8 weeks after bub was born at 180km at teh race track ( used to race and was practising)breaking yoru collar bone into 3 pieces, needing plates and screw, damaging all the ligaments in your neck and bruising both knees and having gall stones at teh same time
yep id say that was worse than child birth.. id happily have a baby than do that again.

Also gall attack is definelty worse, i think child birth is a positive pain if there is such a thing, its almost all forgotten about the moment its over.

YES! Giving birth was the most amazing pain i ever felt it gave me such a rush and amens (sp?) joy how ever you give birth to take in that all that pain was for something so incredibly special!!!

The worst pain i have ever felt, would have to be post-gallbladder-removal surgery followed very closely by gallstone attacks!!!

I am not afraid of child birth as I know it is pain with a purpose but it is in a way reassuring that there are worse pains you can go through.

Lulu- I do agree that a broken heart is painful and I do find emotional pain more difficult to deal with than physical pain.

I have had a ruptured appendix and also a blocked bowel and I remember those were quite painful so I will be interested to see how it compares with child birth for me.

My DP had a petruding disc in his spine which he had to put up with for about 7months before having surgery which he said is the most excrutiating pain ever. In a way I think to myself, that I think he is right.

Like many people have said, the thing about the pain of child birth is that it does go away and has a big reward at the end and each bit of pain that you experience is a step closer to meeting your little baby so it does make it worth it.

In all honesty I have to say kicking my toe hurt more.. silly as it sounds.. But labour is a gradual pain and yeh it hurt but it built up slowly.. Kicking your toe is sudden and unexpected and gauranteed to get a swear word out of me everytime

Mum told me her kidney stones were worse and more painful than all 3 of her labours/births put together!!!!

Ren that so made me smile- I remember being at that point in pregnancy where you know it's goin to happen so soon and youa re just thinking "Yep! I'm ready! I'm tough! Bring it ooonnn!"

And that's when you know you're body is really starting to kick into gear.

But when it was all over I forgot about how painful it was. I've heard that this is a trick of the brain so that you'll go back and have more. All to preserve the human species.

Um, yeah, pneumonia! I've had it twice, and it is heaps worse than childbirth. Yes, childbirth is painful, but managing it the right way, and going into it with a positive frame of mind, makes it a lovely experience I totally enjoyed it, and can't wait to go back again! And no, mine was not an easy, uncomplicated birth. But I still loved it!

Something to remember with birth is that for much of it the pain comes and goes. So you are not in constant pain for hours on end. Just thought I'd mention that, don't know if anyone else has!

I didn't give birth, but for me, having both your feet broken then the next day your "little" sister sitting on those feet because they were up on the sofa... that hurt more than anything that happened to me before or since. I found contractions and pushing didn't hurt whatsoever. It's like that bit in your period, just before it starts, when you have those warning pains in your birth canal - that's what pushing felt like to me. So not 100% comfortable but nothing I'd call painful.

Seriously I had a drug free birth and I can't even handle a blood test!

Your body tells you what to do when it is ready...
When it came time to have stitches I had double the local anesthetic I was supposed to have cos I could be in control(I was able to feel pain and had the time to think abouut it) and my head was in a completely different space than what it was during labour and birth.

That sounds so stupid but when you are going thru childbrth you trust your body so much that you don't question the pain..you just do it!!

It doesn't tickle but it is pain that makes you proud to be a woman!

I have had 2 drug free labours and while i have to admit that the 2nd was more painful (she was posterior) I would not for a second say that my labours 'hurt' or were 'painful' they were uncomfortable for sure but not painful. That is just me though but like others have said in here, I dont like to assiciate the word pain wiht birthing a child. I do believe however that pain is affected by your mental state at the time and if you arent able to 'relax' into whats happening and you try to fight it, i imagine it will be painful.
