Labour shorter with each baby?

Well technically I don't labour perse due to my not dilating until the last minute and not having exact regular interval contractions, but ignoring the 'text books':
DD1. No Prelabour. Hind Water Leak led to 4.5 hour hard, intense labour.
DD2. Small show. 12 hour labour (Including 8 hours of almost constant vomiting though that was a virus). All in all, (if it hadn't been for the vomiting) the labour was not as painful and intense as DD1's short one which felt like almost one giant contraction, so quickers not always better

1st: 9 hours or less (waters broke but no contractions at 9.30pm. A couple of hours later still no contractions but due to pre eclampsia I had an epidural and syntocin. Baby was born at 6.30am)

2nd: 13 hours (due to obstetric cholestasis I was induced early, given the gel at about 10.30pm and contractions started soon after. My waters were broken around 8am and contractions were in full force so no syntocin needed. Baby was born around 11.30am)


Due to the fact I clearly suck at being pregnant, I'm never going to find out what it would be like to just labour naturally.

What about if the first labor was induced? Mine was so does that mean it still could be a shorter labor this time? Please say yes lol

When you're being induced BEFORE labour has begun, your body can take a while to be "receptive" of the synthetic hormones which can impact on the time of your labour.

Some Women just need a little "push" with Synto and it gets the ball rolling.

So I guess depending on whether you are induced or start labour spontaneously this time, it may or may not impact on the length of your labour.

Regardless, you've laboured and dilate previously so assuming that all other factors are "in order" (ie position of baby ect) you may have a shorter labour this time No promises though

So does this all point to a quick labor this time ( pre labor jitters now I think lol).

Yeah no promises A pregnant woman will hold you to that kinda thing!

Sounds like your last bub may have been posterior...Do you know if that was the case?

All of my labours have been super short and spontaneous...

dd1 from first contraction to baby 1hour 50minutes
dd2 " " " " " 50 minutes
dd3 (six year gap and told it would be longer) was two hours from first contraction, because this time I laid down and used to slow down the labour!

Apparently I dilate without any contractions and then whe I go into labour it's a few contractions and then transition! (the after pains are pretty horrific though)

Mine got quicker too but my braxton hicks and prelabour started earlier. Not a bad tradeoff in the end though

Both of mine were induced, so I don't know what they should've been like, but labour #2 was about four times as long as #1 - and had more drugs being pumped in to speed it along!

yes. dd1 4hrs which included a 1hr pushing. dd2 2.5hrs including a 20 min pushing stage (this is 10 years later mind you )

Twins where c section do who knows how long they would have being. Ds3 was lots of pre labour but 3 hours full on labour. Ds 4 was about was about 8 hours of pre labour and 1&1/2 of actual labour. Ds4 was the hardest of the lot very fast and very painful. Pushing stage was only 9 minutes but it was enough to cement the decision that he will be my last baby!

DS was 18h from start to birth but active labour from SROM was 6h40m.
DD was 3h45m from PROM to birth, 2h50m from first contraction.

I dread the thought of going quicker, DDs labour was so intense and fast - i felt mentally in transition when I was only 3cm and I think that was the worst thing.
Being so fast also meant i felt really out of control because there was no getting used to labour or getting into a rhythm it was just BAM.

My mum went 8h-4h-40m then 4h (while they tried to stop it) with twins.

With both boys I really didn't have any prelabour at all, just game on!

DS1 was 10 hours of labour, posterior with his hand up beside his head.
DS2 was 2 hours 50 minutes, born less than 20 minutes after arriving at hospital. He was also posterior when I commenced labouring but I managed to turn him early on.

Yes, DS2 was a short labour but I didn't feel that shock or out of control sensation that others have described. I'd happily have a short labour again. After DS1, I looked like and felt like I'd been run over by a truck (yes, my mother told me I looked like I'd been run over by a truck!). DS2 I recovered much more quickly - a bit shaky at first and a bit of blood loss, but felt really great.
