    Question Tiny cervix...

Just having a mini freak out before the big day comes. But does having a really tiny cervix opening matter at birth? I remember when I had dye flushed through my tubes I was in excruciating pain because they couldn't get the catheter in my cervix. It kept moving backwards so they had to clamp it to hold it in place while they forced the catheter in. It was the smaller size catheter too
Will this make any difference in my labour?

Everyone has a small cervical opening when it's not dilated that's the whole point of labour - to open and dilate the cervix enough to let the baby through. So it won't make any difference to your labour and I'm sure you will give birth just fine

LOL, yeah makes sense! I thought maybe I wouldn't dilate as well or something They kept saying how tiny my cervix was too. But good to know!

*meh* what would they know about the size of your cervix? It has an opening and that's all it needs to have. Just like anything else, cervixes (or should that be cervi? ) would come in many sizes. It's really unhelpful to tell someone that their cervix is 'tiny' because it means nothing. Like your fundal height being big/small. that means nothing apart from the fundal height being big or small kwim?

I had dye flushed through too and it also hurt. I think mainly because you're not really meant to have things shoved up and through an undilated cervix, not because of it being too small or tight.

Your cervix has assisted you getting pregnant and carried your baby to term. Its doing its job and sounds like its in perfect working order. As the other's have said really they can only comment on the opening which should be small when you hadn't had a pregnancy at that time before. Timing also affects the opening of the cervix so if you had the tube in at a non fertile time of the month regardless of if you have had a baby in the past or not it would appear even smaller. Best of luck with your impending arrival.
