I was in the most comfortable place I could find, contractions were regular and close together...I was on the loo! I felt a 'pop' (hee, hee, that's two of us who actually 'popped'!), told DP to call the FBC and from there on in I was in transition. Got there and sat on the toilet, trying not to bear down until given 'permission' by the midwife...who said to just do what I felt like doing, which was to breathe out that kid. I can still remember the feeling in my face as I made a surprised expression at DP during the 'pop'!

My waters broke at home about 10:30 at night, I had been in bed dozing, got up to go to the toilet and as I went to get back into bed felt a pop and a gush. I put my hand out to try and catch it and ran across the hallway to the bathroom. I called out to my DH who was laying in bed that I thought my waters had broken, and his response was "your joking" hehe. We were both nervous and excited, I remember jumping in the shower and just shaking I had that many emotions running through me, I told DH to just keep lying down but he was too excited.
Contractions didnt start to about 1 am after I had arrived at hospital. Waters burst on my due date and DD was born the next afternoon.

My waters broke at about 1:30am exactly one month before my EDD. I woke up with a cramp (1st contraction?) and a need to go to the toilet. I barely made it to the bathroom before a whole lot of liquid gushed out of me.

Unsure of what to do, I rang the hospital and was told to come in. I got off the phone and quickly started to pack my bag, (which I hadn’t even started packing prior to this). I woke up DF, who had gone to bed early the previous evening with a horrible flu and fever, saying that I needed to go to the hospital NOW. He got up, we got dressed and were on our way. During the drive I had several more cramps (which I didn't realise at the time, but they must have been contractions).

When we got to the hospital I was admitted and SuperBub was born later that day.

My waters broke very unexpectedly at 10.30am, on a tuesday, the day before my due date, as i squatted down to clean spilt milo off the floor. I felt a pop and stood up and they just gushed out everywhere i looked at dh, at first i was speechless and he was like "what what" and then i was screaming and pointing down "my waters just broke" and bolted for the bathroom, Dh followed me laughing his head off, he couldnt stop laughing!!! Lol i dont know why he reacted that way. I had millions of emotion running through my head and was shaking (shock i think). Went to the hospital for a check, 11.30am got sent home (no contractions), Went back at 5pm, had only had a few twinges nothing exciting, was given oral antibiotics and was told that i would be induced at 7am the following day if nothing eventuated. First proper contraction at 6pm, 7.5hrs after waters broke. Went to hospital at 9.30pm, 6cm dilated. 10cm dilated at 1.30am. Bubs arrived at 2.58am wednesday on his due date.

I had a couple of days of pre-labour erm... bowel cleansing shall we say? hehe.. in this time I lost my plug and after a while the stomach cramps became regular contractions. My waters broke at 8pm as I was sitting eating my dinner. I was squirming my way through an unusually uncomfortable contraction and decided I'd better run to the loo.. on the way up the stairs I felt some of the waters, and when I sat on the loo I swear the REST of it all came out in one big gush! Of course it wasn't the rest of it.. continued to leak until DS was born hehe.

As for how we felt about it.. I guess it made it very real that I was having this baby! No umming and arring about whether it was labour or not hehe.

But my waters breaking stalled everything. I was hooked up to the drip next morning and had a smooth labour from there.

Have since asked my OB why I was hooked up to the drip so soon.. and even he doesn't know! grrr. He said normally he goes by the next 8am + 24hrs. He looked in my file and couldn't find a reason why he would have done it the next day. At least I know this time what his 'usual' timeframe is if it happens again this time, and can argue my way from there. heh.

My waters broke at the stroke of 12 midnight on my DD edd!!!! I had been have irregular BH's for the previous 4 nights between 6pm and 10pm. On the night I went into labour I called the hospital to ask if I could come in for monitoring. They told me to stay at home until I started to have 3 good contractions in a 20min time slot. At this point this was not happening and the BH's had stopped. DH and I decided to finalise my hos bag and then go to bed. I literally laid my head down on the pillow and as the clock ticked over to midnight I heard a pop. I rushed to the loo and niagra falls happened. I could not leave the loo for a solid 10 mins due to the flow. I then called the hos and was told to go in.

Before I got to my front door (1 hour later) I had gone through 5 maternity pads and ended up going to hos with a towel in between my legs.

Got to hos and midwife wanted to check to see if my waters had "really" broken just in case I had imagined it all!!!!! Ok I am blonde and it was my first time in labour but I was pretty sure that my waters had broken.

It was established that my waters had broken, so much so that they could not see my cervix and could not tell how far I had dialated.

Was put in a room to wait and offered a panadol....which I declined.

By 4am my contractions were 3mins apart and getting ouchy

About two hours after regular contractions started i was on all fours on the hospital bed breathing through a contraction when i felt a big 'pop' sensation but didn't feel anything else, after the next contraction i climbed off the bed and my waters stared gushing out.

My waters broke at 8:28pm Monday night 2 weeks before my EDD.
Just as i got out of bed i felt this pop & then a gush of water.
My contractions started after my waters had broken they were 15 min's apart at first.
We called the hospital they told us to come in within the hour.
I had our little girl at 1:38pm the next day.

My waters broke in my first labour mid contraction during transition while sitting on the toilet. In my second labour it broke during a pushing contraction. The poor midwife was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It is funny people talking about a "pop" sensation, both times if felt more like a "burst" to me.

With Jack I had woken up at 5am for a drink and called mum because I had a bad backache, she gave me some panadol and told me to go back to sleep, which I did.
I slept until 8am, and that's when I started to have regular contractions every 20 mins. this continued all day til about 7pm when they started getting stronger. Mum was at work and Dad had stayed at home to keep an eye on me. Mum got home at 7.30pm and I told her that it was getting really bad, so we got in the car and we drove to corowa, I don't really think the midwife there believed me as she ran me a bath and said this will stop the pain. After 5 mins of continous contractions, she rang for the Doctor, but of course he was in Wodonga and said that he would be there as soon as he could.
10 minutes I was in full labour in the delivery room and all of a sudden 'pop' my waters broke all over the midwife and not long after that Jack was born.

My waters broke at 11:30pm on the night before our due date. I had just gone to bed and was reading, when I felt a substantial trickle (not enough to wet the mattress!) I told DH, and he was pretty suprised : "really? are you sure?? OMG". I hadn't had any contractions, but lots of BH (but had had them for months already). I went to the shower and lots of waters gushed out. DH heard it from the hall and said he thought I had turned on the tap for a bath! I was shaking with shock and excitement I think.

We went in to hospital, and I soaked through several pads, and a towel. It just kept on coming and coming. I had to walk through to the birth suite area with my jumper around my waist as my trackies were soaked.

My contractions became painful about 5 hours later, and DD was born 10 hours after waters breaking - on her due date.

With Kat I was induced with Gels. Two lots by 9pm. After the second lot of gels I was having prostin pains bad enough I could not settle even after two sleeping tablets and two panadine forte. I spent the night pacing the halls and laying on my bed trying to rest, not being able to so getting back up and pacing again. At 4:30am, I was lying in bed, and tossing and turning as I could not for the life of me get comfy and the pains were like very bad period pains and when I turned over I felt a "pop". A definite pop. I lay still for a bit thinking I had imagined it. Then decided I should check so waddled to loo. Yep, was very wet and musty and sweet smelling so I waddled up to sisters station to inform them (had already been in 5 days and knew the night shift nurses didn't answer buzzers for almost an hr and they were always sitting talking at the desk). They told me to go back to bed and buzz them WTF?? Anyway, almost made it back to bed and decided I wasn't going to be able to stop the flow anymore so changed direction towards the loo, took two steps and flooded the floor of my shared room. All I kept saying was "Oh my god this feels GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!" and they helped me into shower. I had towels and pads and more towels between my legs and the waters just kept running out and flooding everything. I'd soak a towel and pad within a few mins and they'd have to change it all again cause the bed was getting wet. I also saw very clearly they show. A big chunk of thick whitish red mucous. Not clear, rather opaque and solid. I'd been losing it for a week or so, but it was interesting to see the whole thing in one lump so to speak (nurse in me coming out there!). Dh was rung and arrived 20mins later and soon after I was taken to labour ward. I was sooooo excited as I knew I'd be meeting my bubs that very day and I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. Untill the synto drip was turned up to full flow and everything is a haze of pain from then on! Yowch! She was posterior too which was not good, but the nurses made me lie on my back the whole time. Anyway, enough of that. The waters breaking was gross but exciting! Can't wait for it to happen again! hehehe

My waters broke late labour, just before pushing started for 1st baby. It's funny because thats what I was waiting for to tell me I was in labour, but it ended up being one of the last things to happen in the labour process.

With BUB number 1 - my waters broke at 2am whilst on the loo.

With Bub number 2 - ARM at 3cm dilated after 3 prostaglandin gel applications. Lots of fluid

With Bub number 3 - ARM at 1cm dilated after 3 prostaglandin get applications. No gush just 4 drips of meccy fluid when standing upright. My waters just disappeared during my final weeks of pregnancy???? Bubs head high out of the pelvis....

My water breaking was the first sign of labour. No show, no contractions.
I had been on one of my usual middle of the night toilet trips at about 1 or 2am. I woke again at 3am, feeling a little trickle. I got up and trickled all the way to the toilet, where I gushed. I rang the hospital, who told me to have a shower, and take my time to make my way in. We reached the hospital at 4am. I only had weak and very irregular contractions after my water broke. At about 8.30am, my OB came in and gave me the option to either wait 24hrs to see what happens, or to be induced. I chose to be induced and to get it over with. Drip went in at about 10.30-11am Charlotte was born at 3.55pm, posterior with the help of vacuum extraction as she was in disress.
    Positive birth experience though.
    Will definately do it again!!!!
