Talking Baby number 6 arrival !!!

There is a lot of fore story of this pregnancy, loss of a twin, GD and breech presentation, but I wont go into that now.....

I have always gone over with my bubs, and had good drug free, tear free labours.... and only packed my bag this time at 38+4 wks...

At 38+5 bub was head down, not engaged, and I was about 3cm, had a show........

On 8.01.09, at 3.00 am (38+6) I started to get niggly pains and sat up watching tele, not thinking I would ever go early!! I had a shower hoping it would settle down, or speed up.... nothing.....

Then at 5.00am I had a contraction that floored me!! Ad said "you wanna head to hossy now?" I have fast labours!! I said "just wait, it could be a one off'
Well 2 more that floored me, and he rang his dad to come sit with the sleeping kids, and we headed off...

We got to the hossy, and Ad handed the middie my birth plan, which included no Hep B, no Vit K, delayed clamping, no suctioning unless needed, and no canula for me...

Well she gave a little laugh and I snapped "whats wrong with my plan?" She said nothing, she was giggling that I had written I wanted to cut the cord... I was the first mum to ask that !! the middie was nice, so I relaxed...

But the contractions were much more painful than I thought they should be, so asked for a check... 7cm, waters intact, but bubs head very high so she didn't wanna break them...
The contactions now were the worst I had had in all my labours.. I was standing over the bed, bending over it through them, and just sobbing in pain....

Then in comes a Doc because I was a GD patient, and he said to get on the bed and lay on my back, beacause bub would be big and get stuck, and tried to stick a canula in my hand!!! I was furious!!! But my great middie said to leave me where I was.....

But I caved on the canula... Being #6 meant higher risk of PPH, so I agreed as long as it came out asap after birth...

The pain was getting sooo bad, I joked saying, "Can I just have ceaser thanks?" and " Is it too late for an epidural?" Between contrations I was fine, but during, a crying mess....

I had an emense strange pain, and told the middie I think she slipped down.... she checked, and yep, bub was in place, so she broke my waters.... the relief was AWESOME...

Within a couple of contractions, I felt pushy, and jumped on the bed, facing the bed head, on my knees... bum facing the door!!

Again the Doc wanted me on my back incase bub got stuck and he had to rotate her to get her out... I grunted "no way" and the middie told the doc if anything went wrong she'd flip me over... Again, she was great!!

The contractions went from pushy, to pushing!! It was my longest pushing stage so far, about 20 mins... all the others were out in a few contractions...but I could still feel her slipping down further before she crowned... then finally her head was out!!!

The middie and Ad both cried "stop pushing", the middie saying to pant for a while... so I did, then she said "off you go, push her out!"

Out she came, and I looked over at my mum and said "God that feels better" Everyone cracked up... I turned over to see her lying between my feet.... not crying, just looking around... and sooo cute! It was 6.50... labour 1hr 50 min long

I asked if she was still a girl, and Ad said yes..I sat down and scooped her up, laying her on my chest... out came the placenta in one push, and it was massive!!

Then I was handed the scissors to cut her cord, and I couldn't, it was so hard, and I was a little weak... so I cut half way, and my mum cut the rest... And again, no stitches!!

I asked why they all yelled for me to stop pushing, and apparently the cord was wrapped around her everywhere... over her head and all around her body and they wanted to try and untangle her...I looked at the cord and it was sooo long... the doc was facinated!

She layed on me for an hr, no one else touching her, then looked for a feed, and fed for 50 min!!!
I showered, and we went to our room.... THEN I let them touch her...

    53.5 cm long
    and perfect!!

She had her check 3 hrs after birth, and I asked to leave... But her temps were up and down, so I agreed to stay for just a little while... we stayed 24 hrs till her temps levelled... and coming home was awesome!!! The kids had all come to the hossy, but I love being at home... I miss them too much! She is a breastfeeding champ, and sleeps well at night....

She is a pleasure, and is soo spoilt and loved..... We get asked all the time are finished having children.... and all I can say is... maybe....

I have left out a lot I think... but thats the general story of Baby number 6!!!

How lovely! You've made me look forward even more to my #6 arriving. Good on you for telling the doc what you wanted during your labour, too! Any doc worth their salt knows if a baby is stuck, being upright hands and knees is much better than on the back, anyway!!

Aw PB, what a glorious story! LOL@ 'Is she still a girl?' and 'That feels better'! Don't you say the darndest things?
I am so inspired by your standing up to the doc, particularly when you were finding it difficult to cope with the pain of the contractions. Well done to you! And to your supportive midwife.
    Awesome - congratulations!!!

Thanks for sharing. Being half way there with #6 myself, its great to read. Kind of reminded me of when I had #5. Once he was out the whole room fell over to my "Oh thank god thats over".

That Doc of yours needs a slapping! Some people really need to learn how to speak to a labouring woman without putting themselves in mortal danger! LOL.

Actually our local hossy is crap, but I like our middies!!!

I was in good spirits between contractions and said a lot of dopey things... the middie commented to mum about my good mood, and mum told her I was like that with all my labours.... the crying with pain got to mum and Ad because I'm not normally like that, the poor things...

I remember getting a heap of double contractions, where as one would die down the next was starting to build... had them for a while and it was NASTY!!! Mum was asking the middie if it was normel to contract for so long without breaks... I had a sore back and shoulders afterwards for about a week from bending over the bed...
