Don't give your kids dried apricots as they have sulphur and other baddies in them.
Olive, I knew there was a reason I couldn't drink wine.
Be careful of some cold & flu tablets as they have things in them that can cause problems.

Peg they are really hard to find though. The dumb thing is that the sulphur is used to help them keep their colour as well, otherwise they wouldn't look as nice and palatable. I saw on a TV show once that the absolute max amount of dried apricots that a child should have is 1/4 of a half an apricot! It is really frustrating that nearly every single item in the health food isle contains either dodgy preservatives or soy!Defeats the purpose of it being in the health food isle if you ask me.
I don't have a problem with soy as a fermented product, but when it is used as an additive to processed food to bulk out food, it is nasty stuff. Soy just isn't meant to be eaten in that form.
So what can they have that is safe?
I am so confused(not hard I know)
Can we make a sticky thread with foods that do not have these baddies in them??
I found myself reading the labels of many of the things i generally buy and was amazed at how many contained hidden nasties. Even tinned tomatoes!
I found Aldi Almond Fingers and Aldi Oat Bran and Cranberry cookies by Belmont biscuit co do not contain any nasties. (although the cookies have vegetable oils)
perhaps the only way to avoid them is to make things yourself.
With a thread like this we can make some efforts to inform ourselves and others. It's a good thing
Peg i agree our best bet would be to make a lot of the things we eat ourselves (snacks included). Then comes the 'time' issue... Sue Dengate has a book called the Failsafe Cookbook which would probably give you lots of good recipes to do just that.
Yep non-fermented soy products have been implicated in increased breast cancer list. The fermented stuff traditionally eaten in places like Japan is thought to have the opposite effect.I don't have a problem with soy as a fermented product, but when it is used as an additive to processed food to bulk out food, it is nasty stuff. Peg - good on you for getting the breadmaker out, good job, I am thinking I might have to get myself one. I cant be driving half an hour all the time to stock up on bread.
Bellabambina - trust me you are not the only one who is confused, I have the Additive Alert Book and the Fed up book along with the Failsafe cookbook and I am still confused lol, I just find that the failsafe diet seems to be alot of sugary type things, its hard to get my head around the fact that fruit and vegies can be bad but I have seen first hand what they do to my DD.
It really annoys me that its hard to find something off the shelf thats healthy to pop into the napppy bag. I am happy to cook so I dont care about having to make my own things but I dont want it to be all biscuits muffins and cakes etc.
