Hi,
No, it doesn't mean your baby will miss out! Most of the world's population stop producing the enzyme lactase after the normal age of weaning and therefore cannot digest milk. Europeans seem to keep the ability to make lactase, and therefore it seems normal to consume dairy after the age of weaning in our society. Calcium from your diet (there are sources of calcium other than dairy) and your bones will be utilised so your baby gets enough calcium. Also, your body utilises calcium from your diet more efficiently when you are pregnant or breastfeeding. But the good news about that is that after weaning your bones will re-mineralise and be stronger for having breastfed.
Hope that helps
Warm Regards
Barb
