Breastfeed then immediately wants water. What's going on?

DD3 is having a breastfeed around breakfast, before her late morning sleep, sometimes around 4pm ish, before bed at night and then one or two through the night. Her breakfast and 4pm feeds usually end up that she'll have a feed but immediately go for her water bottle and have a big water drink too. Does this suggest that maybe my supply is not sufficient for her needs now, or is it just that its her latest funny little quirk? I'm going back to work in a couple of weeks so I'm trying to work out if she's going to need bottles during the day or if she'll be ok without it.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't think anything of it. Spock always has a full water bottle she can access whenever she wants. I just see water and bm as different needs.

Nup - your supply is perfectly fine for her needs. Remember - she drives supply. She’s a big girl now. She wants a drink of milk (and love) and a drink of water. Strange how our first reaction is to jump to the conclusion that we don’t have enough. Food and water are main players now. but milk is still really important and you have just what she needs

    That's M.

Thanks Barb. I'm really enjoying feeding her and have been a bit worried that my return to work might have her getting too used to looking elsewhere. Its about the only time these days that she slows down enough for me to get a cuddle ;-)

My toddler does this all the time. I think it's actually just her wanting to cleanse her palate after a good slug of rich fatty breast milk.

DD goes through phases. Sometimes it's water and nothing else, sometimes cows milk is all she wants, sometimes BM.

Miss L loves her water bottle too. Straight after her 'oobs' with food and all day long. I figure its just another dude for her

Actually when we first introduced a sippy cup to DD she loved the novelty of it so much she was guzzling all day every day for a while... In fact from memory I posted a thread about it because I too was worried!
