Bit of a me post but after a few weeks of thinking DD1 has been weaning on and off, she is now up to a week without a feed... feeling conflicted! I was so ready to stop, since falling pregnant it had been difficult but especially after DD2 was born, feeding DD1 was rough because the strength of her mouth just felt uncomfortable compared to the newborn but I kept at it and now she has decided, at a similar time to toilet training, that she is ready to move on from breastfeeding (we had been talking about her being a big girl in relation to using a toilet and I think she has sort of taken it a step further). I'm so terrified now that she is going to get sick or constipated or something, breastfeeding has always been a bit of a security blanket for me. There are positives, she is going to bed a little later now (from 5:30-6:30pm to 6:30pm-7:30pm) which suits us a bit more and DP has been able to do some of the bedtime settling which is pretty special for them. We haven't had any issues with settling at least even though she was feeding to sleep 9 times out of 10. So my journey with DD1 has wrapped up, sadly I can't even remember our last feed exactly because it has been on and off for so long but there are many special memories, it is such a special time... 3yrs 3mo, not a bad effort right?

Guess it is time to change my ticker. DD2 is feeding reasonably well, she isn't as keen as DD1 was but no real problems so far, I don't think she will go as long as DD1 did but hoping to get to 18mo if not 2yrs. She had her first taste of solids a few weeks back courtesy of her big sister but we have started offering vegie sticks to chew on officially the last couple of days as well as some chicken, she seems super keen which is a weird experience for me given DD1 barely ate before 12mo and even then I would say only really took off after 2 haha. Here she is munching away! Bit earlier than we intended but feeling okay with it now.

I can't believe the sense of loss I feel right now, I never thought I would be so into breastfeeding haha. It wasn't always enjoyable but it always felt worthwhile.

leckert dd3 is only pooping every 4-5 days and by the 4th day she has a lot of wind pain for about 12 hoursand then we get a monster poo. Ive found a warm bath helps as does putting her in the swing. Not sure why the swing works, maybe her position??

BAL you are doing such a great job! Glad that things have improved. My favourite bf advert was one in SA and it showed a claender of bf mums and the statment was every month is a bonus, I think you've got the right attitude, take it day by day I hope things keep going in the direction they are now

We seem to be going every 2nd-3rd day at the moment - often while in capsule or soon after being in it warm bath not so much yet but ds1 usually insists on ds2 bathing with him (often the only way to get him in the bath ) so I'm not holding ds2 in bath for long enough probably to get the effect (as well as bath is probably a bit cool to help ds1's eczema rather than ds2's pooping.

But thanks for the reassurance that it's normal. Wasn't sure if I should get concerned and if I did need to be concerned how long before I start chasing someone up about it but if wind issues are normal for a while i won't worry too much. (have been seeing a Chiro for it and seems to be helping as ds has clearly had stuck wind in a couple of places when we've seem her.)

Hotl I hope it's not a serious mole. In terms of depth and breadth of the cut and pain or proximity to your nipple I think it depends on the type of mole, ie how deep or wide the dr needs to go to remove enough offending skin.

Jelly, 3 years is fantastic! Before I had DD I thought BF her to 6 months was my aim, now I have her and she's 4 months at least 12 months is my aim, hopefully more. I get your sadness- I'm already feeling sad at the prospect of introducing solids and she's not even there yet!

DD by the way is a several times a day pooper. But since about 3 months she's gone down from about 5 out of 6 nappies being dirty ones to 3 out of 6. It's interesting re the wind though as in the same timeframe her wind / colic has been playing up more.

DS was a once every 4-5 days poo-er too. And yes, we could always tell it was poo day because of the stinky bum grizzle guts we'd have for about half a day beforehand. He still only goes every 2-3 days typically now that he's on solids.

I think the occurrences of poo change as they get older. Start off with lots and gradually wean down. And as their guts change the consistency changes too. Very unlikely for a soul bf bub to have any issues with constipation. Didn't have any issues here until we started him on rice cereal.

Speaking of poo, I've noticed 4 month old DD is starting to obviously push them out- like she groans and tenses her body and her face puckers up. The poo once out looks the same as always; perhaps slighly more green sometimes. Why would this be? It looks no more solid.

Hi ladies, sneaking in to get your advice. DD is 12 weeks and back to two-hourly feeds during the day, and only 2.5-3 (if I'm lucky) at night.

I'm exhausted. The day feeds are really quick and I know she's not full, she comes off to play and I have to top her up before she naps - even then she'll only sleep 45 mins max. I'm trying all sorts of tricks to encourage her to stay on longer but my assertive little gal knows what she wants! It makes even a loose eat/play/sleep routine difficult.

I actually love the night feeds because it's the only time she eats peacefully seems satisfied, and then gets a better block of rest.

Is this just a phase/age thing? I feel like I'm forcing her to eat as soon as she gets up when sometimes she doesn't seem all that hungry. I think by doing this I've also increased my supply dramatically and she's a bit overwhelmed by it, has been a bit chucky.

Output and weight gains are both fine.

Stretch feeds or ride it out?

I think it is a little bit of an age/phase thing. Around 12 weeks is a gnarly little wonder week and they really start to take more notice of what's happening around them rather than "oooh food, gimme gimme gimme!" as soon as the boobs come out.

I did find with DS at around that age he'd feed better if I waited until he was ready rather than trying to feed him as soon as he woke. It did mean however, that he fell more into a play/feed/sleep pattern but meh, it worked

Buffy DD is a 45 minute day sleeper still and as you know she's about a month older than your little button. She's also a much better feeder at night- no wrestling, sputtering, distraction or crying. It's so nice! No advice for you alas though I've given up eat play sleep as the numbers just wouldn't add up for us.

For me it's nearly always ended up being play feed sleep but we do currently have times where it's feed play feed sleep and a few tines where ds2 drifts off without a feed during the day if I'm busy and he's in his bouncer with the vibration on.

Agree with cranky kitten. It is an age/developmental thing, and you'll find they seem to go in and out of this one. I don't know if they are trying to tell you they want a change of routine. But I just went with the flow too, and that ended up meaning it went play, feed, sleep. But babies have their our routine, they don't read books.

how long am i going to be leaking and having to ear breastpads for?? like are we talking years (as in the whole breast feeding career) or does it settle down and ill be right in a few weeks?

I would just like to say....FRACK it's cold this morning! And of course, Monkeyboy decided he didn't want to go back to sleep after his sparrowfart feed so now we're up and in the loungeroom with the heater on.

T it's hard to tell - it differs for everyone. I know some people who leak heaps for quite a long time, others who don't leak much after first couple of weeks or so. I still leak occasionally at 7 months but mostly only if I'm super full and either laying on my boob or DS is feeding on the other side, so I don't bother with pads or anything. But with my first, I leaked more.

Hi everyone haven't posted for ages but just wanted to say DD3 will be 9 months in a few days & is still b/fing like a champ.
Not overly interested in solids but still loves her boobies & is gaining & growing perfectly so i'm not worried

Will try catch up once i get a free few mins.

T i leaked with DD2 till about 4 months but never leaked with DD3 & i have a better supply with DD3.
I think it's just random but it should settle down for you.
