Tei - Somewhere between 6 weeks and a year or so - not forever! I used to sleep wrapped in a couple of towels rather than use them at night.

thanks girls. yea it still squirts un controllably everywhere, and the start of a feed is bad cause it comes so fast for my poor little girl she either gulps and coughs, or pulls on and off and milk squirts EVERYWHERE!! nights are worse cause i just leak continuously, and yea, have to sleep wrapped in towels, but by half way through the night they are so wet and its cold =( just hoping it settles, or if i have to psych myself up for this being normal for a very long time.

T I also did the wrap in towels but have found wearing a singlet with a folded cloth nappy in it more comfortable. After about 6-8 weeks I stopped leaking all the time and now it only happens first thing in the morning as my bb's are sooo full as dd3 is sleeping through

Buffy it must be so tiring for you. None of my kids were ever play, eat, sleep we have always had piggies so it was eat play eat sleep. Does she cope ok if you stretch it out a little? Sometimes I'm finding I'm offering bb's automatically without realising that's not really what she's after

Teirae I leaked full on for over 6 months. But still wear breastpads now, though I only tend to leak when I'm feeding ds. I have always been a squirter, ds actually anticipates it now and cries at my boobs as if to say hurry up let down. One good thing is he can feed really quickly now that he can handle it.

I still leak and we are at 4 months. I also feel a letdown when she's due for a feed, I'm thinking about her next feed, or am thinking about her generally and I always leak of course with the let down. I leak heaps at night as she goes 5-7 hours without a feed sometimes.

sorry buffy, i missed your post before.
my ds was like sararose's kids. he always wanted/needed a feed when he woke up & needed the comfort of a feed before he had his nap. he also fed 2 hourly (at least) around the clock till he was maybe 10 months.
it is tiring & my technique (not saying this is the 'right' way, it was just what my ds needed) was to remind myself that bfing represents food, drinks & comfort & that it wasn't forever. you just need to work out what's right for you & your dd - it doesmt have to be eat play sleep, it could be a different varation or you could stretch out feeds etc. around 12 weeks is also a wonder week so tjat could be it as well...

So last night we had 5 hours between feeds!!! I couldnt believe it (still cant) normally its 3 hrs max! Was fantastic...except for my poor boobs =( so basically we missed a feed and man was i engorged and sore =( and have been out of sync all day and in pain.
Im now paranoid she didnt drain them today cause they were so full and ill get mastitis (have been so lucky so far in terms of bf)
..gotta stop stressing about what hasnt happened yet...

Congrats tei! I remember DS first long sleep thru - it was awsome but I think for last hour I was lying awake praying he would wake up to releive my sore BBs but refused to wake him (I believ in the never wake a sleeping healthy bub lol) but I was sooo uncomfortable lol and I'd be soaking wet by the time he did wake up, I could never figure out how to get my breast pads to stay in place overnigh lol!
Have u got a pump? That is how I actually started pumping and have kept doing one pump every morning. I would express the excess on the second side about 30mins after the feed and then start back on the first side next feed. Otherwise I was just too uncomfortable and leaking everywhere.

Thats what dh suggested (the pumping) but i declined knowing it would mean i would just make more...but i do need to start expressing at some stage... just can never think of the best time to do it (cause of the whole demand supply thing)
And yea...exactly how i am at night..lying in a puddle with wandering breast pads (or in recent cases wandering towels =\)

Am successfully Tandem feeding my 17mth old and 2week old. Although because DD doesn't feed over night I'm waking up very full (luckily I don't leak and never have to wear breast pads) so am expressing at least once a day. Even after expressing and feeding DD and DS I still have plenty of milk, I could supply the whole street I reckon!
Teirae: if you express just enough to relieve the fullness you won't make much more and that way you won't be in pain.

My DD normally feeds 3 times a day, but will have less if we are out or busy. Today, she didn't have a feed until tonight. DS also didn't drink much today, due to being out and about and possibly feeling abit blur. Woah, my boobs were massive by this arvo. Thankfully they have both fed tonight, but i will prob express before bed so i can get comfy.

I've been expressing before bed as since hubby is giving DD a 9:30-10 dreamfeed with EBM without expressing would mean my boobs are not drained between 6:30pm and anywhere between 3:30 and 5:30am - she wakes up randomly at night at the moment. She's definitely switched into a 3-4 hourly daytime feed pattern at the moment though she does still ask for a 2 hourly maybe once a day or every couple of days.

I have started pumping too but am just a little worried that I'm pumping at the wrong times and that DS isn't getting enough milk. I heard that milk is replenished in as little as 20-30mins but my boobs don't feel full (especially in the afternoon) if I nurse then express. I know that morning is better due to the hormone levels and that afternoon/evening is generally when supply is lowest. So when are y'all pumping? Before bubs nurses or afterwards? If after, how long after? We're not on a schedule yet cos he's still brand new so I can go anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours between nursing. DS has definitely started the cluster feeding in the evenings as well.

Blackrose I used to pump before hand cuz I read that then they would get more hind milk but it was too hard to predict and I always worried I took too much out. I know pump1-1.5 hours after morning feed (DS is three-four hourly feeds during day. I can get anywhere from 60-140mls depending on how succesful pumping sessions and obviously how hungry DS has been!
