Thats my problem too blackrose. DD also doesnt do the cluster feeding in the evening that seems to be sleep time for her and the cludter feed time changes. So she is still all over the place with times. So not sure when in the day.

Expressing seems to be everywhere these days, but you don't necessarily have to express at all if you don't want to, especially in the early days. (just putting it out there )

I didn't express with my dd until way after 6 months, and that was getting ready to go back to work.

I never quite got the idea of expressing unless I was planning on going back to work or out for a night or something. About the only other times I've tried have been when I've been over-full and hand expressed a little bit off to relieve the discomfort.

Mind you, my body seems to hate pumps. I've never been able to get a let down on any pump I've tried, so never really bothered with it.

Yea.. depending on money i might have to go back to work sooner than i want...im hoping to make it to 6 months (ideally i would never go back to work but im going to have to..) so need to express for that and guess i just want to give it a try even tho i do have heaps of time on my hands. I also like the idea of having a back up if i am so rub down etc i know there is food for her that takes a bit of pressure iff me.

sorry for the double post...and another question girls =P

ok..so you little one has a feed, lets say on the right side, all good, pulls her self off and has a burb and is settled (so basically done, not interested anymore), she sleeps but then like half hr later wants more!! do you give her the right (same) side again, or the other?? do you have your own guide? like if its within the hr you do the same side or no matter how long you always do other side??

I don't really keep track of times or sides. I try her on whichever is handy and then if she is fussy, I will try the other. I do have a bit of a lopsided issue though because we both favour the left side, just more comfy for me to hold her but your supply works it out lol. I did the same with DD1.

I just want to be able to share the love with my DH and get him to bottle feed. I also feel more comfortable having some EBM in the freezer JIC... IYKWIM. Also, DH and I have a couple of nights out coming up in the next few months and I will be back at work part time in October. Also I want to give my 2 year old DS EBM if he'll take it

I would change sides unless didn't feed much before. He tended to feed on one side per feed in the early days, so I could tell which was due by the fullness of my boobs. But I always tended to have more in my right side.

I expressed as I had a heavy flow. I used to express first thing in the morning usually only my right side, before DS had a feed. I used to squirt a lot, causing DS to choke on it and this alleviated it.

As a figure to go by I'd just express the let down, watery milk, and get around 250ml off one side. So you can see it was painful if I didn't and is just leak it out otherwise. Guess that's why its taken me over 12 months to get rid of breastpads.

Yeh I had a lot of milk, is drench breastpads. I literally squirted across the room when the lactation consultation tried to direct my breast for correct latching. I would feed him on one side and catch the other side in a bottle without pump and still get over 100mls. Saved on washing the pump. Much better now, only get 150-180ml when I express at work from both sides.

I get excited if I pump 100mls from both sides, taking 6 motilium a day lol..

Bub has been waking for night feeds which is great for my supply He has been feeding pretty well this week, but started to fuss a bit today.. I really hope the good feeding continues.. it's so much less stress when he just latches on. I love breastfeeding when he is not being challenging!

No I'm not blessed, but I thought about it. I think I'm a bit far from a milk bank. Hope your supply improves, and you can start taking less motilium.

Williamsmummy there is a facebook page called human milk for human babies. There is one for every state. It's for private milk sharing. Just putting it out there in case you are interested? If I was in your state I'd be stalking you .. Luckily for me I have some lovely milky mama's up here that donate to me when my supply drops off. I have such a touchy supply, the second I am stressed my milk goes. My son has 450mls a day through an NG tube and I don't pump that much, so these donors are my saving grace. I have never had to give my son formula (apart from the prescription fortifier he has added to the EBM)

Oh I love milk donors. What a great idea, to know if you need it you don't have to turn to formula. I would never have known about them though except through this forum. Do hospitals advocate for donated milk?

Ladylove - Unfortunately no hospitals don't advocate for it. Not for private milksharing.. Too much politics It's such a shame, when my twins died all that EBM was thrown out simply because I didn't know what else to do with it. All that colostrum and trasition milk would have been so yummy for another premmie baby . It's really crap that Milk banks aren't funded and the milk bank near me charges $80 for 1.1L of milk!! Its crazy how much money goes into the promotion of formula, yet milk banks don't get funding when there are so many milky mama's that would donate. I think that's how Human Milk for Human babies came about.. Unfortunately many people don't know about it, and many people are 'weird' about it.. I find it amusing that people will turn their nose up at other women's breast milk but will quite happily give their baby a cows milk product that isn't even made in sterile conditions without even looking at other options.. I'm not against formula, but personally after doing my research I would much rather give my baby someone else's EBM than formula.

Anyway.. I am a huge advocate for milksharing, I have met some amazing women that have Insufficient Glandular Tissue and genuinely are unable to produce enough milk, they feed their babies solely through donor milk using a supply line. Now that's dedication. They are forever chasing milk, paying lots of money for shipments interstate, fuel to drive an hour away for milk collection, storage bags for the donating Mamas! It's really admirable. Not sure if I could do that.. It would be much easier though if milk sharing was more out in the open, and more women donated. I am going to NSW to see my mum on Friday and didn't want to transport EBM, so I put a call out on FB and a wonderful woman from this forum has donated and put me in touch with some other Mums that will. It's so nice to know I now have EBM waiting for me in my Mum's freezer
