BTW, there's some great coverage in the ABA's current issue of Essence that deals with extended bfing. Makes me feel positively normal!

Leasha, this is a great thread idea.

When DS1 was born, I'd only ever known one person who bf past 12 months. At the time I thought that was unusual, and TBH even strange. I didn't really know when I wanted to stop, but I didn't have any expectation of feeding a toddler.

Boy did my views change. Before long, my goal was to bf for 2 years. Sadly, we only made 14 months before DS1 self-weaned when I was half way through my pg with DS2. So of course my goal with DS2 was also 2 years - and this time we came close, but again didn't quite make it. DS2 self-weaned at 21 months. He literally attached for a morning feed one morning, pulled straight off, and pulled my top down as if to say "I'm done. For good." And he was - he didn't want it again after that.

I'm disappointed that we didn't make it any longer, but also proud that at least they fed for over a year, and both chose their own time.

B/f DD#2 till 13 months...but was pg with DD#3 and i think my supply dropped. DD#3 i b/f till 13 months; again i was pg and i found the nipple contact a bit painful. With DS being our last ...(i think....) i intend to b/f him as long as i can....around the 18 mth mark would make me truly pleased with my b/f efforts....
