So true Trill!!!!! Anything to make a dime. As someone said earlier whats wrong with boiling the kettle to make up bottles and popping it in the microwave. What a waste of money.

Yeah, wonderful gadget, yada yada. Would have sucked to be me trying to use that with DD1 though, she never fed according to the 'schedule' of hours/amounts printed on the formula tin so if I'd had something like this made available to me at the time, she would have starved, or I would have been standing there at 3am taking 10 mins instead of 1 to make a bottle because I'd have had to repeat the process about four times to get a single bottle, itms.
I don't like the idea, purely because I think it's junk (like a PP said, nappy wipe warmers and all that other nonsense that's just a way to part over-excited/concerned parents from their hard-earned), and I worry that it outsources even basic instinctual behaviour in parents. Like I said, my first child was formula fed and I had to use my brain to observe her feeding habits and adjust according to her needs, I worry that some babies will essentially be starved through the use of machines like this because parents don't have that leeway to make bigger bottles for hungry bubs, and might assume that the 'machine knows best' and deny their babies essential nutrition because they don't understand that not all babies 'meet the guidelines'...

Several ffers I know think that ffing IS the easy alternative to bfing. To bf means they can't drink, hand their bub over to rellies/day care, party til late at night etc. And yes, these are the reasons they told me they stopped/didn't bf. I reckon they'd be in there buying one with bells on. And it's so 'cool' to be seen with a 'real' coffee in a throw away cup - wondering if the formula can be served in one? This thing will sell like hot cakes... another status symbol that all new mums 'need' to go along with their 'real' coffee in a throwaway cup, $1000 pram, iPhone etc

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they come up with some attachment bfers can use to 'enhance' their milk too (maybe a milk frother? lol)!

It might be like the nappy wrappers, everyone goes out and buys one thinking they are great, then realise how much it costs to "refill" and then can't get rid of them quick enough

MrsCptAwesome, that comment about the WHO - they probably had to legally put it in there, or to meet other guidelines in order to advertise it - many places are becoming WHO compliant on infant feeding (like BB). But everything Nestle does is about money, and that means making formula look and sound great. Have you seen on Youtube, Formula For Disaster, by Unicef? Here's part 1 - its about formula in general but you will see lots of Nestle breaking codes, bribing and fighting for their right to do so, because they can get away with it.

A BB member visited one of these third world places a few years ago and saw a huge billboard by Nestle for formula: 'Be Like Your Western Cousins' - they will do whatever they can get away with to mess with people's mind so they buy a product that was designed to feed orphans, that had no other access to breastmilk. Now its a FMCG. Sad what they've done to women's confidence in their own bodies.

I am know all about Nestle and their horrible actions and way of business, especially in 3rd world countries, it is awful

But, as someone said earlier... would there be the same reaction to this machine if it were made by another company.

Yes I think so, for sure. I've seen other products come out and spread all over Facebook.... like the product which is like 2 big hands, designed to touch/hold your baby when you want it to sleep, and dont want to settle it yourself.

Oh my goodness, really!? That just sounds a little scary, 2 big hands would frighten me let alone a baby... and that is awful that someone would buy that instead of holding their beautiful baby

I don't see the huge deal in it really!! Sorry but we all make choices and this is just another one of them... think my study in behavioural aspects are coming out now LOL Companies bring out new and exciting gadgets all the time and we don't even blink an eye at it. Question how many of you have dishwashers?? They don't always clean the dishes adequately do they!? and there was a recent thread on this topic too, which i might add found it great cos i don't have one!

Dishwashers and breastmilk are a little different imo! Health implications and all that jazz.

I'm not turning this into a debate so breathe deep, but there are studies showing babies who are formula fed have higher rates of <health problems> to mention just one reason why I don't give a toss about other gadgets. So fobbing it off as a consumer good is not ethical or contributing to society in my opinion. Making a machine more commerical and trendy to increase the use of formula is not as fun as the latest playstation.

I couldn't agree more Kelly with breastmilk being very important, but i also don't like making FF mums feel any less if they can't for what ever reason... please don't take offence to that! If personally feel that more support and education for mums, dads and families in hospitals, clinics and likes would go a long way. There is just not enough LC's out there with the correct information to give out when things don't go right. Sorry a little off topic

Can you please tell me how I am making FF mums feel less than BF mums? That is a bit of a generalisation though as I know not all FF or BF mums feel the same way.

As i said please don't take offence as i was saying it in a general manner that mums might feel offended that a gadget aimed for there use is being debated against. I have seen many a posts that mums feel bad enough having to FF there baby and none of us deliberately aim to make them feel different but they do sometimes.
I have been on both sides with both my boys and try to keep an open mind to how they feel thats all.

Formula Feeders don't need to feel bad about Nestle's unethical actions. Nestle should feel bad though.

I think making the comment that FF results in a higher rate of leukaemia in children is pretty much guaranteed to make FF mums feel pretty bad Kelly!

I don't have a problem with it but hey, I'm one of "those" mums. I have a coffee machine - not because I'm lazy (frankly, it takes a lot more effort to make it, clean the machine etc than it does to boil the kettle) but because the coffee tastes better. I had a $1,000 pram because in my opinion it was easier to use and more comfortable for my child.

I don't understand why there can be any number of things out there in the form of counselling, introducing legislation, pillows, clothing blah blah blah to make breastfeeding easier, and all those things are applauded, but when something is marketed (whether a gimmick or not) that may make FF easier for those of us that FF it gets jumped on. We are educated women, and we all accept that breastfeeding is best. Some of us just can't do it.
