I got a chart produced by Watties (Heinz brand in NZ) with a list of ages to start which foods. It lists ice-cream and smooth peanut butter for 8-9 month olds.

What is worse is that it is endorsed and handed out by Plunket, the organisation that is the main support service for parents here.
