    EBM Question? Help please

    Hi,
Bubs is sick atm and not feeding very well. She needs to get used to the bottle as i'm going back to work p/t next month anyway but i thought i would try giving her EBM today and she if she can breathe better from a bottle.
I had a feeling she wouldn't like it as she rejected nipple shields when i tried those and i was right. She just let the milk run out of her mouth and wouldn't swallow any. Quite disgusted with the whole thing really lol
Anyway I now have 50mls of bm sitting here that i don't want to throw away and i'm wondering why the guidelines say i should discard this milk? Can i add to it now and put it in the freezer provided i get rid of the teat?

If you haven't warmed it up, then yes. Freeze it right now.

When I was expressing for 7 weeks while DD was in hospital I was just adding my milk into the same bottle over the day and then freezing it that night. Then starting a new bottle the next day.

EBM can sit on the bench for up to 8 hours before needing to be frozen so long as baby hasn't drunk from it.
Is this 50ml from the bottle she has had her mouth on? If so, it needs to be disgarded or drunk within 2 hours.

The ABA has great advice & info on EBM. You can check out the info page on their website HERE or give them a call - 1800-686-2-686

    Thanks ladies.
It has had her mouth on it so do i need to chuck it? seems like such a waste when she didn't take any iykwim. I took the teat off straight away. I can understand why i shouldn't keep offering the same teat but just not sure why i couldn't put the rest of the fresh expressed milk in the freezer?

If her mouth has been on it then saliva is in the milk. That's what can breed bacteria.
I understand the pain of throwing it away. Maybe next time you try just give her a tiny bit so it doesn't matter so much if she won't have it.

I'd better chuck it (boohoo) especially seeing as she's been sick. Next time i'll just do 10-20mls. Thanks
