Fenugreek Dose

Sorry if this is written somewhere else but I can't seem to find the answer.

I've been having breastfeeding issues on and off since Jett was born but he is feeding lots, very fussy hopping on and off and not gaining much weight. My LC suggested some time ago fenugreek to increase my supply if I wanted to. I haven't bothered, but am really feeling like I need to give something a go now.

Can anyone tell me the dose I should be taking? I have looked but all I can find is that fenugreek can help increase your supply!!! Yes, but how much do I take to get it to help me???

I made tea out of it. tastes kinda like curry.
Those little tea infuser/ball thingys - about 1 tsp in ont of those to a cup of boiling water.

I did notice it affected DS' poos though, they got a bit looser and a bit frothy.

Thanks! We only get poos every 7 days at this stage, so maybe it will bring it on a bit more often?

I take the tablets - 2 tablets 3 times a day, so 6 in total. I could probably take more but I think 6 works well for me. I've heard some people say you need to take it until you start smelling like fenugreek

I took the tablets also, but only 1 tab 3 times a day, and had a noticeable increase within 24 hours!!

Did it affect your bubs napies when you took the tablet form? I wonder if that makes a difference?

Hi rayray, didn't affect DS but then we never have a shortage of dirty nappies in this house - sometimes 5 before lunch time!!! - so I may not have noticed. A naturopath did tell me that Fenugreek can cause an upset tummy in bubs so she suggested drinking Fennel tea, which apparently aids in digestion and can also boost milk supply!

Well I've started taking the tablets so we will see what happens.... I'll let you know about the pooey nappies too, Jett only does a poo every 7 days so I'll know if there are any upset tums!!

I got an uspet tummy with Fenugreek and so did DS, he got wind pain and explosive poos

I actually found Blessed thisle and alfalfa tabs all MUCH BETTER!!

I also had tryed domperidone

I used it when DS was having growth spurts and feeding alot.

I started taking 2 caps, 3 times a day but I found I was getting these really dull, annoying headaches.
So I cut it down to 1 cap, 3 times a day and it was fine. Supply increased nicely
Definitely worth a shot!

I think it was about 3 days, but a really noticeable increase was more obvious at about 1.5 weeks. So it wasn't instant, but it was def worth it.

I was taking 3 tablets 3 times a day. I noticed a slight increase in supply but not much. DS also got horrid poo's so i stopped. I'm now taking Motilium and my supply is so much better and it doesn't affect DS at all.

when i first started taking the tablets OMG it was as though my milk had come in all over again. That was 2 tabs 3 times a day.

I am scared that my milk will just stop like it did with dd1 - she was 4 1/2 months old and one day it was just gone, so I now take 2 tabs a day (works in my head, KWIM?) .... and if they are feeling empty i will take a couple extra.

I have 3 tablets 3 times a day. And after 2 days even my pee smelt like it... sorry if TMI lol
Ashton started smelling like it too But you only have to take it until you are happy with your supply. I stopped about a week ago and my supply has stayed the same.

mis tree the dose to increase your supply is 2 tabs 3 times a day, so maybe just try a couple more hun?

I started on two caps 3 times a day, but found it didn't do a whole lot for me, so I increased to 3 caps 3 times a day until my level was established and have since dropped back down the dosage. I think once you can smell it in your sweat or wee then you have hit your dosage limit. I could never smell it on me, but just found it worked once I found the correct dose.
