Question Nipple thrush - using Daktarin gel.....

DD weaned herself a few weeks back now so I haven't been breastfeeding however occasionally (once or twice a day, some days not at all) DD will ask for it and I let her have a little suck even though my milk has gone. I think she asks for it out of habit, yk?
Although it seems now I have got nipple thrush.....I've had it before when DD was very little so I know the symptoms etc. It's been stinging/burning and it's quite red in the very middle of the nipple.
Had it for a few days now, finally went to chemist yesterday and got Daktarin gel, have been applying it liberally for 2 days now and so far I don't feel like it's getting any better.....

Any idea on when I should be feeling some relief from using Daktarin? It's so sore

    Thanks!

I would think you would have started having some relief after a couple of days. My mastitis started as you describe, i thought it was thrush, could it be that?

hun that sucks, especially after you have weaned.

Are you treated DD as well? Perhaps she has been re-transmitting it back to you? I would have expected it to start clearing by now too. Perhaps a visit to your MCHN/CFHN to get it checked might help?

I hope it clears up soon. I had it twice and it is really the pits.

I haven't let DD latch on since I started the daktarin gel so we can't keep infecting each other. Thats if DD even has it. I should give her some but her mouth appears normal and isn't saying it's sore?

I am now thinking it's a blister. One area on nipple hurts more. Do u have to pop blisters? I can't see one though lol! I'm confused as to what I have. Might see my mchn Friday, she is an LC.

When i had mastitis, a small portion of one nipple was itchy and a bit sore, the rest was fine. It was slightly red and maybe a tiny bit inflamed but not bad.

you might also need to take the thrush tablets. i did for nipple thrush. i would get both you and DD checked for it. also, make sure that you keep changing bras often (to stop re-infection) it is a total PITA, took me weeks (but i was BF full-time...)

hun i don't think you can take the tablet when you're pg. check with the pharmacist though

it sounds like it could be the start of mastitis?

really? Even with no pain in my breast?? No flu symptoms either or temperature?

I've decided to stop using the gel as of today (haven't put any on today) to see if that helps as perhaps it was irritating this possible nipple blister I "think" i might have.....a blister can get pretty painful too apparently??? I popped something in my nipple that had a tiny bit of puss in it??

Really. I had no pain, no fever, no nothing. Mastitis can start like that and then develop further when the other symptoms appear. It can take a few days for the infection/inflammation to progress.

A blister shouldn't have pus in it. Just serous type fluid. Was it clear liquid in the 'blister or yellowy/white?

The pus was creamy like that you'd find if you popped a huge zit on your face!! Yuck. Not much of it though.

Nipple is MUCH improved today, not much pain at all. I believe it was just a nipple blister (very painful one!!)....they are so hard to find though!! I must have popped the right thing
I think maybe I did have some thrush also perhaps but I've stopped the gel as it was only aggitating the blister further.
    Thanks everyone for your help.
