    Stupid thrush

I am so freaking over thrush dd and I have had it basically continually for the past 4 weeks and I am over it. I am putting daktarin in her mouth 4 times a day and rubbing it on my nipples every chance I get. We have gone through countless tubes of it. I am taking a probiotic every day. I have cut out sugar. I am washing everything daily in canestan. I don't know what else to do and I am so sick of it. So sick of my boobs itching like crazy, so sick of them throbbing like hell after every feed, and then throbbing randomnly throughout the day. It all just feels like too much right now. How the hell can I get rid of it. I just don't know anymore.

Have you tried a different antifungal? Sometimes one doesn't work, but another will.

Recurrent thrush may also be because there is a second bug in there that makes it easy for the thrush to reinfect, or causes some of the symptoms itself.
There are combined medications (kenacomb is one) that are both antibacterial and antifungal, but I think they are prescription-only.

If you are expressing to reduce the irritation then make sure that you are sterilizing each and every time as well

I think Kmn is on the money. Nipple thrush is very likely completely overdiagnosed. Usually it clears up quickly with treatment. However, we hear from friends that they have these long battles with nipple thrush - it's likely they are treating the wrong problem. Go to your doctor with a view to gettting a 3 in one kind of creme like kennacombe - it has a steroid (great for that itch) an anti-bacterial and an antifungal. You need a prescription, and it's best to wash it off with a warm, wet facewasher before feeds. Not because it's so bad - but it tastes so bad!) I hope you get some relief soon - you are doing a great job.

The only thing that helped me were the tablets from the pharmacy. My LC got them prescribed for me from a Doctor at the hospital. I also took a break from BF and expressed for 3 weeks but it wasn't ideal and I soon became exhausted. I never wanted to formula feed and even joined up to the ABA before bubs was born but no matter how much support I received for people - it was still my body that had to cope with it all. I made the decision to FF for my own sanity and luckily my son adapted well with no problems.

I too had thrush for what felt like ages - I'm still not certain that it was thrush the whole time as what finally cleared it up was another round of antibiotics - despite the fact that I think that my post-c-section antibiotics brought on the thrush. Diflucan seemed to help a bit but when it didn't completely go away, I went back to the GP and she said she wanted to treat me for an infection because she'd never seen a case of thrush that wasn't cured by diflucan (3 tablets over 6 days). Not much help - but I've been there and know how horrible it is.
