What about a computer?? How are you going to come on here and let us know how you're going??!

Also Radio Rentals are pretty good, I get my washing machine through them and the money comes straight out of my CL allowance and I think at the end of the ocntract you can buy out for $1 or something - you end up paying more in the long run but that was the only way for me

Hey Emma, a little story here with a GREAT ending ... I moved (or rather got kicked out of home as a teen for no apparent reason than having a Mother with mental issues), i at the time had $300 to my name and a few things i had saved in my glory box like an iron, towels and a few kitchen cooking utensils ... yep that was it, oh and a bag of clothes & a couple pair of shoes) ... My BF at the time's Auntie rented out to me her old bungalow fully furnished with very old furniture but at least it was very clean (and i was very grateful) ... It had two small rooms one being a bedroom and the other a kitchen with a couch in it and a shower in the corner ... My vanity mirror was a mirror over the kitchen sink, the toilet was a long way from the bungalow outside which i wouldn't use as it was run down and always full of huntsman spiders so my toilet ended up being a bucket in the shower.

A very kind old lady living next door heard about my living there with no family help or support and she handed me over the backyard fence two old dented aluminum saucepans ... me having pride said i would pay for them one day when i had the money and she said not for me to be silly and just take them, that in taking them it mean't something to her to help someone ... and she said one day if someone needs my help i will do the same in return (which i have a few times now )

I lived there for two years until i got myself on me feet with study and work ... and needless to say i kept those saucepans for many years as a reminder that there are the kindest people on the planet, even strangers ... who will pop out of nowhere (even over a fence, lol) - when you might need a little foot up in the world

So Emma what i'm getting at is if you PM me your postal address if you would let me give you some * kitchen stuff * i have (not those saucepans they have been well gone now as i was given them over 20years ago now, lol ) ... All is in fab condition and just sitting in my cupboard waiting for a new owner ... and maybe one day many years down the track you could do the same in return for someone as i did and the little old neighbour i once had

... and Emma please don't be shy as i would truly loved to (postage no cost of course as i have that covered too ) ... and lets look forward to getting you into your own sweet home for you & Grace that has all that you need (and maybe more )

Cheers from Lorelle & Miss C xox

It sounds as if you are coving things well, i just had a thought that you could get a general idea of the cost of start up groceries by going through the online shop at one of the major supermarkets getting everything you think you will need and check out the total cost without actually committing to buy.

WIth this figure in mind you will have a ballpark figure of the max cost as I am sure you could find most of the goods cheaper at smaller stores when you are ready to get them.

Also consider the $2 stores. Some things there are much cheaper than at bigger retail stores such as toilet brush, brooms, shower caddies, tupperware etc...

Good luck and enjoy the moving forward!

Don't forget ebay either, you can get some great stuff there, we got our dishwasher and a fridge from ebay.

    Garage sales are great too.

When i first moved out of home I got a lot of stuff from my grandma's house and various relatives so had an eclectic but useful set of furniture etc.
Which state are you in?? My friend is selling 2 Ikea lounges with covers for $300 (they will be in great condition knowing her cause she is very fastidious about cleaning etc.

hun I have 2 single beds that you can have if you want, you're not too far from me. They're wooden slat ones but I lost all the screws when I moved last so I can't put them together lol! They're basically 2 single bed frames (minus the screws but they can't be hard to get hold of)

    Just sitting in my garage

Hey we are moving out into our own place in 3 months and I have an excel spreadsheet of all the furniture and bits and pieces we need to furnish the house. PM me if you want me to sent it to you. It has everything you could think of on it so a lot of it you probably won't need!

    Good luck with the saving

Sounds like you are pretty organised. When DH and i moved into an unfirnished place we spent about $6000. went to some good second hand furniture places and got a sofa and chairs. Fridge and washing machine we actually got off ebay for a great price. paid bond and first lot of rent. and the rest we got from salvos...towels etc. had of of the baby stuff already.
as long as you have the very basics and can pay rent the rest will come over time, we STILL dont have chairs around the kitchen table and we have been here nearly a year!!!! Good luck!!
