The length of the second stage has a bearing but it isn't just that that can cause on going problems. It is theorised that relaxin (a hormone that allows the pelvis more flexibility) that is released during pregnancy triggers SPD. Many of us in childhood fracture or injure the coccyx without knowledge and this is also thought to have a bearing on SPD. For the spine also supports the pelvis. So an already unstable structure becomes even more unstable with the influx of relaxin. ; A c/section cuts into abdominal muscle which supports the pelvis & this is why c/section is not favoured for SPD sufferers.(because damaging that muscle will sometimes lead to lifelong pelvic and back problems.)
I will rustle up some information but it's not a "study" so to speak...
