What is my chances of having both DH and my Doula with me during c section?

We hired a Doula when I was about 3 months along. Mainly because my mum is not around and I have no other family or friends that I can lean on for support. And DH is great but he and I fed of each others emotions a bit so I thought it was a smart move to hire a doula for both of our sakes. And I am so pleased we did. She is great! Now that we are having a CS though I am not sure if she will be aloud to come in with us during the delivery. Has anyone else been aloud 2 support people during a CS? We are delivering at Sydney South West Private (Liverpool Private NSW). I would really like some video and photo's of the delivery so she would be great to do that while DH stays with me.

Generally speaking the policy of most hospitals is one support person for a c/section. However, you can (and I know people who have) negotiate beforehand for their doula/additional support person to go in as well.

Usually this will be entirely at the discretion of the OB and the anaesthesist. You are definitely best to have it sorted out beforehand though - don't rock up on the day with doula in tow because likely answer will be no if you spring it on them.

Even if your doula can't come into theatre with you, she can still stay with you before you go in and you might be able to have her waiting in recovery where she can help you breastfeed (if you're planning to do that).

    good luck

You need to be aware that there is very little room to manoevre during a c-section. After DH (holding one hand), 2 surgeons and a nurse (working on getting bub out) and an anaesthetist (working with my other hand) and the midwife and paed waiting to look after bub - I don't know where I would have put another support person!
If the point of having your Doula is more to support from a distance you could probably negotiate that she is in theatre - but it would be physically tricky for her to be within a metre of you.

Sorry but my hospital said no. And I agree with there being no room left either

Yes I was allowed 2 support people at my emergency c/s my mum and my hubby, doesnt hurt to ask at all. For the 2nd c/s (elective) I chose only to have my DH. I went to north shore private.

    Hey puppies!

I really hope u get to have your Doula with you and everything goes smoothly

Just on the video/photo thing, I don't think any hospitals allow video to be taken of C/S. Its worth asking, but just thought I would give you the heads up.
