The other day, i was changing DD's nappy and noticed a large lump. She was screaming blue murder at the time, telling me her wee hurt, so i pulled the nappy off to find a really acidic nappy that had burnt her (we suspect pineapple sensitivity - but that's an aside)
anyway, i noticed the lump, called hubby and by the time he worked maybe 10m to get to us, it was gone, and dd was settling down. the lump was about the size of a golf ball on her right side, just above the join from her leg to her body. we decided to keep an eye on it, and haven't seen it since
til tonight - again, she was screaming blue murder, but didn't have a nappy on. she told Daddy it hurt and was grabbing at the area - again, a golf ball sized lump, and she was telling us it hurt
she wriggled a bit while i was trying to look, and it disappeared again
does this sound like a hernia? if it is a hernia, what do we do (obviously we need to get her checked, but is there any way we can help her?) what treatments are there?
i grabbed my phone as soon as it happened tonight, and managed to get a pic, so i have "evidence" to show gp - i'm just worried about her. poor princess!
seen GP about this last night
of course, the lump wasn't there when he was examining DD!! so we showed him the pic, he agreed it looked like a hernia, but given he couldn't feel anything, we've got to get an xray on monday just to make sure there is nothing odd there, and make an appointment to see a paed. we've basically been told what nurse friend said the other night - monitor, if she seems to be in pain, and it's there, straight to Emergency. If it becomes rigid, straight to Emergency. essentially - do exactly what i would have done anyway!
so i guess it's going to be a long, drawn out situation while we wait on results and next appointments - but we've taken step one. not that i wouldnt' take it - i would rather be over cautious about her with something like this (for myself, nope, but for her - always!)
