Cat - I always thought BBH was baby beehinds hemp - and BBB was the baby beehinds bamboo.. maybe I'm mistaken
And my Bum G inserts do that as well. haven't fixed them yet.

Hey, just wanted to say hello... I am exuberantly in love with my Lila's new nappies- BBB and BBH. So much. Thought I would join in and get to know y'all. Hi.
Hi Steph :)
:welcome: to the madness...
Maz - dunno how much longer - how long is a piece of string? ;)
Kitt3n I had an insert do that. Can't remember which one as I sewed it up. I'd say it would be covered by the warranty being a manufacturing defect. Email the store you bought it from.
Welcome Steph :D
Got my new ittis all washed and drying on the airer. Pity it's raining today! Not fair cos they would have been dry by now if it was yesterday.
How long is a piece of string? Twice the distance from the end to the middle ;)

thanks raven but the store i got them from closed down, bought them about 6 minths ago.... might gave to see if my aunt can have a look, she has an overlocker but, what would be a worse fate? trusting them to my aunt or leaving them be? :/
maz - when you snet me the breastpads i just KNEW you were going to make some covers out of that turtle material, DD agrees we MUST have it.... going to have my finger on that HOT lil button (hopefully the baby will let me argh!!!)
been trying to get in here to post for days but finally made it, typing one handed.
i'm loving cloth on elise, prefolds and maz cover can't be beaten, all the other newborn covers are too big for her atm. i wish i had brought more.
fair to say i'll be sending some love your way maz and getting a heap more covers.
i do have a bummi cover which is good but in the heat her toosh gets too sweaty, so i'll be stearing clear of those for a while.
now all i have to do is expand my stash for when she chubs up.
here is elise in her maz cover https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...hp?photo=11903
Kiit3n...i hope i am quick enough to get some of those devine covers aswell....

anyone seen the new beetlebums night nappy :o holy moly not cheap!
you mean the wooly pockets? at $60 plus post, no they aren't lol
yep them ones!!
Erm a ? for everyone about the prefolds.............
How did you opt to fold them for newborns?
Ive got some ready for when bub is born but not sure how to fold them and if he is anything like his brothers just using them booster-style in a cover wouldnt stop poo-splosions  Also, did you use snappi's or pins? Id prefer snappi's I think if they are easy to use. Can I use the ones from BigW and such or should I get them online?
Anna - I folded the prefold so it flares out across their butt/back - and wrapped it around the front - where I had it folded as a big pad. Then I snappied it. With ones I got from Big W. ;)
AnnaT- I did much the same as Arimeh, but Ari wasn't a newborn when we used them. I think the cover is meant to to the containment so it doesn't really matter how you put the prefold in. We used the pad fold mostly and I would tuck it into the little pocket on our covers to hold it in place until they were ready to be used or just fold as we went.
I did the same but when I was expecting a big poo I would roll the edges towards the middle so I had a roll around the legs. You need to lay in a booster though because the rolled edges mean no extra layers are in the middle. But it contained your runny BM poo.
Big w snappis are fine but there is someone on ebay that seels them in packs of 3,6, & 12 prettyscheap & they work perfectly fine/
ANna - big w sells packs of three snappis for $9
the nappy pins seem dangerous to me, i wouldn't chance it myself - i bet i would ***** myself hepas too
the trick for me, with the prefolds was
- get bamboo ones, they are trimmer and more absorbent
- get closefitting cover to put them in, with leg gussets
- i only used the snappi when the cover was a bit bigger (than my ideal ones)
i think i goggled "how to fold a prefol" - there were sites that listed lots of ways to fold them, you tube videos giving demos, so many refs.
terry fabric soaks up runny poo faster than fleece so i think an ideal nb prefold/trifold, would be one side bamboo terry, oneside bamboo fleece, overlock those two layers together - that's it. Fold it into three like a pad. Lay a microfleece liner on top to catch the worst of the nb poo.
Teruru - i so hear yyou on NOT having sewingm machine, i'm getting desperate myself! (enough to handsew stuff).
yesterday i cut out a pattern with the intention to try out sizing but ended up stitchin it up by hand! i was only muckin ard but ended up with a nappy LOL. it was only made with some crappy tshirt material scraps so not sure how it'll withstand pee, it has 7 layers as the internal so any ideas? im unfamiliar with covers, but u think if i make a fleece cover it'll work good together? cant wait to get the machine from mums so i can start making REAL nappies hahaha
The more internal layers you have, the longer it will take to dry.
You may achieve a quicker dry time if you put less BODY layers, and instead amek a separate booster, to lay inside the nappy. that way, you divide up the layers (fro drying purpose). Even better, make a trifold insert - so you'll get six layers all up , just in the insert (double layer of absorbent material, folded into three, eqqauls six layers) + whatever you have in the fitted nappy itself.
cotton tshirt fabric is not very absorbent, so you'll need quite a few layers of that stuff
use polyester thread NOT cotton (which will wick)
great to work out your pattern, techniques using crappy fabrics, that will help you no end by the time you get to using th egood stuff.
if my microfibre inserts r startin to come apart, it shouldnt affect its performance right?
they are often overlocked togheter (with polyester thread) - maybe the ends weren't knotted together, just cut off.
congrats on sewing your first MCN! that's great! now to roadtest it on a real live bubba! Did you handsew aplix on it (FOR closure) or do you have access to a snaps machine? i tried to handsew aplix once - NEVER AGAIN, so sore!
welcome STEPH.
Mel,
Try hanging to outside over night and then leave it a full day then another night then wash. Even if it rains this can also help. If it hasn't much elastic a soak in napisan might also help.
Nothing is worse than clothes that keep a bad smell.
The other option is after you have washed it put it on him when he is due to dirty it, give it his own smell :D
Wow - lots of pages to catch up on!
Gigi - waaaay back - yes night nappy is for Ari - I really need a nappy that's got more length in the front. Her WC are like bikini's on her and when she sleeps on her tummy - it comes straight out and through the cover. Our GNST did OK last night but it's not a fav IYKWIM. Mattress protectors we use a normal one from kmart with a saddle style one over the top of her sheet. PM me if you want pics and detail they are about $27 from where I got mine.
Mel - eeeww on the stinky nappy. Have you tried bicarb? Maybe soem teatree or lavender oil and disinfectant. Yuck that someone sent you a stinky nappy, how rude.
kitt3n - I just used mine frayed, no problems but if you really wanted them replaced maybe contact nurture nappies, they are the wholesalers for Bum g in OZ and handle all the returns anyway.
oh blah, I can't remember anything else.
Oh have my give away stash ready will list them soon - what is the right way to do so, in this thread or somewhere else?
just a quick one before i go bed
anna- did u want snappies? ive got a heap of them i got off ebay but they r just sitting ard now...
gigi- no closure atm, didnt have any velcro handy but in one way its good cos i can just pin it up cos its only a tester afterall. it'll probably never get used after once or twice, just a momento thou :p
saram- what have u got up for sell?!
be back tomoro muahahaha
I'll give all those a try. The line one didn't work, I had it out there for almost a week and it still smelt :(
The worst thing is when I opened the pack I could smell it, so I have no idea how the seller didn't :(
Morning ladies....
what do we all have planned for tonight?? we are doing nothing as usual :( NOT that i have the energy to do anything.....
MAZ....just for you babe...

I am looking for snappi's Teru!
As for NYE, we are attending a carnival/concert/fireworks thing on the river tonight til probably 9ish and then we'll come home and do nothing, maybe even go to bed early  Party animals arent we?
I think Beetle Bum Night napies are so expensive because its all wool. All night nappies sit around the $40/$45 mark but really the makers wouldn't be makling any money off that. So much material & time goes into them. They really are being sold for cost.
I think when the BB night nappies first came out they were $45, then $50 & now $60. I guess beetlebums are just testing out how much people will pay. I guess it would be nice to make a little bit of money off them.
But I don't see $60 being a big hit. its simply to much.
Im still waitng on fluffy mail. I spoke to Michelle yesterday & She hasn't sent my stuff yet but thats ok because she hasn't sent because she has extra stuff she is finishing off for me to add to the parcel! Im so very lucky! Even if I have to wait justa little longer to get it. Im sure I will be bouncing off the walls when I do get it.
Gigi, My plotting is on hold. But I will let you know when to salk your postie.
hmmm what else...
Oh I was out yesterday with Iain in a itti & he did a massive poo & lets just say the itti didn't fair to well LOL. Its always the bloody ittis he leaks in.
Isla is still alittle freaked out about poo. Again DH set her back a bit. She poo'd in her nappy (after screaching NO that she didn't need to poo when I saw her with that face lol). DH cleaned her up & wriggly 2 yr old with a bum covered in poo & a typical bloke when it comes to poo & nappy changes, ended with her crying & him yelling to lay still & me saying to take her off the couch & do it on the change table before we have **** from here to next week!
He is too slow & gentle with nappy changes. He worries about hurting them so he wipes by using the wipe scrunched up & basically dabs at it all rather then wiping with the wipe open & spread over the area. takes for ever & taks a heap of wipes. He could use at least 6 wipes when I use 2 at the most.
Hate to see him try & figure out the cloth wipes!
So much easier to just do things myself.
i just ordred some more osfa fitteds (i really like fitteds!) maz going to need some covers in med soon, sew sew sew my dear! (dont like pul covers, only yours!)... havent played with my wool cover yet either, havent even figured out how to lanolise! but why bother if maz's work great?

Happy New Year's Eve to Everyone!!
I have lots of beautiful nappies drying on the line in preparation for our trip! We are headed down to Sanctuary Point this afternoon to spend New Year's with my BIL and his girlfriend! We are hoping that DH won't have to work at all on Friday (he owns his own business) so we can stay until Saturday! I'm looking forward to some rest and relaxation as DH spends a lion share of his time with DS when he doesn't have to worry or stress about work.
Can't stay on here long - just wanted to pop in and say hello - I have 101 things to do before we leave at 4pm!
I hope everyone has a wonderful NEW YEAR and I'll be back online over the weekend!
WOHB: Tots Bots with PUL cover
I've bought heaps of second hand nappies and some of the have been real pongers. I think what worked from memory was to just chuck them on and after a few wears they aren't as bad.
I think what Rivlas said is spot on too. As a parent you have more tolerance for the smell of your own childs poo over someone elses. I know I do ;)
