    Question Advice Needed with Reflux

So as some of you may know i have a 4.5 month old and we have repeatedly been to my dr about reflux he just keeps ignoring me its now to the point DS2 just keeps vomitting and crying through a bottle and not wanting to feed at all (bottle fed) the other day he went all day off 1 bottle which is not right did this make my dr give me anything still NOPE
So i took it on my own thing and gave him 1ml of mylanta the other day he ate a whole bottle and slept for 5hrs straight, again yesturday he wouldnt eat so i gave another 1ml of Mylanta then an hour later he ate a full bottle again and last night i gave another 1ml before bed (6-7hrs inbetween doses) he ate again then slept all night

My may point of this is, am i doing the right thing??? im sick of my Dr not listening to me and saying its something else :| he arches his back ALL thre time, regurgitates (sp?) i know its reflux, i got given tablets a week ago by a paediatrition BUT its very hard to cut them into 30mg tablets for dosage and i cant get scripts off him as he is a 4hr drive away, my Dr also knows this but still refuses

    TIA

Get a new doctor. Seriously, he is not listening to you and not helping your bub.

I agree see another gp who will listen, reflux can be manageable with medication but it seems some dr's just don't listen.

Is there a chiropractor that you can see? I know that seeing one really helped Phoebe, within a week I had a whole new baby! But I agree with the previous ladies, try and see a new dr. Also will he sleep on his belly? Sometimes that will reduce pain, or even leaving him to sleep in his pram on an angle may help too.

Yep, i agree, see another dr.

Also get a pill cutter from the chemist to cut up the tablets. My DS has been given tablets too and i have a pill cutter to cut them in half.

I hope u get someone to listen to u soon xx

Can you see another doctor or get a referral to see a pediatrician? I had 2 doctors tell me just to monitor DD2's silent reflux and i said to hell with that! The poor thing was in pain and arching her back and screaming through every bottle. I finally found a doctor who had a degree in child health and he put her on meds straight away. She is now the most happiest baby. She still has moments where the acids hurt her when they come up (which we're seeing a paed on Tuesday to get her meds upped) but she at least will drink her bottle now without any fuss. So definately listen to your instincts and find another doctor or pediatrician as in my eyes its not right for them to be in pain when it is treatable. If left untreated can cause serious damage.
    Best of luck hun xx

:O Omgggggg how on earth are you meant to do that!! How ridiculous!! Keep up the mylanta and try to get into a different dr or see the paed again, even if u have to wait, book the appt and then ask to go on the cancellation list. He definitely sounds like he has reflux to me. Could you ring and speak to the paed and get them to fax a script through to your local chemist maybe?

I hope you get some answers from the Paed. My DD was unsettled when she was a newborn and we were questioning whether she had reflux or colic. I went to a breastfeeding clinic and was given info from the MCHN, she wrote notes for me and i just looked it up. My baby was about 8 weeks old.

Mylanta 2.5ml before feeds/ 4 times per day
    see dr for reflux medication-zantax
    see osteopath
If you are giving 1ml and you are seeing results, this might encourage the dr to prescribe you Zantac.

If you can't get in to a dr, can you see a maternal & child health nurse and get their advice?

I was going to suggest trying infant gaviscon like the PP has suggested. If that or the mylanta works, i would give it to him until u can get into the dr or paed, at least he is getting some relief then. Could you ask at the chemist how much mylanta u should be giving him?

How did you go with ringing the paed? I suffer reflux badly too, so, like you, i understand the pain our little ones are in and i wouldnt wish it on anyone.

I really hope you get somewhere with a dr soon and ur little man is on the road to feeling better soon xxx

My young man is now on 10mg of Losec twice a day and 5ml of mylanta three times a day. Weighs in at 5.5kgs (hasn't got the weight loss issue you can get with reflux)

Just thought I'd let you know so you can be reassured that 1ml is perfectly fine

My DD2 is on 5mg losec (half a tablet) once a day and 2mls mylanta 2-3 times per day (as per her pediatrician). As for your dosage, are you able to desolve the full tablet in say 15mls water and then give him 3mls of it?
