    Non-wheat teething rusks?

DS already has 2 teeth and although they don't seem to be bothering him unduly, he wants to munch anything he can get his hands old (including my fingers ouch!). As he will be 6 months in a few days time, and starting solids, I was wondering whether it would be OK to give him some teething rusks to chew on. I don't want to give him wheat ones yet, but does anybody know of any non-wheat teething rusks, e.g. rice-based ones?

    Cherie,

Olivia got teeth from around the 5 month mark (prior to starting solids) so what I did was buy some of the plastic water filled teething rings........she would happily knaw on a frozen one of those for ages and it really seemed to do the trick.

(I believe the packaging says NOT to freeze these, but I always have, with no ill effects....)

Your other option would be to cut a banana in half with the skin on, and freeze them. Then take a half out of the freezer, remove the skin, and let him knaw on that? (Again, I did this for Olivia. Very messy, but she loved it.)

the gluten free shop near me has non wheat ones, I''l try to pop in and see what they are called.

there are rice based ones called 'muma and buba', but TBH they are moew like crackers than rusks and I think that Jambin would probably be able to bite bits off, so you'd want to be closely supervising.

Thanks Rayray - I saw some wheat-free ones online called Organics 4 Kids, but didn't want to buy them before I'd spoken to anyone who'd used them ... I wonder if they're the ones your local gluten-free shop has? Jambin still chokes on formula occasionally, so I'd probably worry about him choking on the rice ones atm.

Lucy - great idea about the banana!! I usually freeze a few for myself for a healthy 'icecream' type treat (although I dip mine in chocolate first) but I hadn't thought about doing it for Jambin.
