Teething & A Chest Infection - connection please?

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a link with teething and say a cold anr/or chest infection?

Poor Ava has been actively teething since about 4-5mths, her cheeks turn purple/bright red, she drools, pulls at her ears etc etc.
She FINALLY got a tooth last month and right before it broke she got a chest infection, poor girl was sooky all day (gel, and brauers really helped and panadol at night) but then of a night was waking up with coughing fits and not being able to breath properly due to a gross nose.

Well it seems tooth #2 might not be far off as my sooky girl is back during the day with a major runny nose and the other night had me up for an hour and a half from 3am trying to get her back to sleep.
Upright cuddles are wonderful but not for that long when she is sniffling the whole time, any tips?

I give her brauers and now baby nurofen (apparently better than panadol for teething as it's an anti-inflamatory) before bed with her ora-sed gel to combat the teething and have a vaporiser in her room, the top of her cot is up on phone books and i put baby balsam on her chest and feet.
Is there anything else i can try, #2 is on the way and the lack of sleep is starting to take it's toll.

My DD has been fighting a chest infection for the last 6-7 weeks and she cut her first tooth last week with more coming. She too has been waking with coughing fits and crying as she is unable to breath although in my case it is because she stops breathing, she has not had a blocked nose, she also has been vomiting after her feeds due to the mucus on her chest.

My DD was on antibiotics as she has a history of respitory distress and so we tried to catch the chest infection early however they did nothing and the doctors put it down to teething.

She has a teething necklace and I use baby balsam at night, but I do not use anything other than that. She has been sleeping a bit better over the last week or two but we still aren't back to our sleep 12-14 hour girl that we did have, unfortunatly I think it is a bit of a sit and wait thing .

I know what you mean about the sleep and being pregnant (we are belly buddies!) it does take a toll, we had a really bad night last night.

I hope your little girl starts feeling better soon.

Ohhhh poor little one, Ava doesn't vomit thank god but her nose is shocking.
I took her to the doc last time as i knew she wasn't HERSELF and the doc looked at me like it's a cold, o knew it wasn't as her cough had gotten worse over 3 days and 1 night i got up 15times to get her dummy and hold her upright etc, he checked her chest and said ohhhh it's a chest infection. He didn't want to give AB which is fine i'm not a major fan of it myself but why do they think we have no idea???

I hope your little one is better soon and you get back to getting plenty of rest.

    What is a teething necklace?
I don't really like using baby pain relief so try and limit it to just before bed but i find the brauers natural teething relief is GREAT and so is ora-sed gel.
Teething doesn't agree with Ava one bit, she has been teething for soooooooo long and only has 1 tooth so far.... hmmmmm can't wait for teething to be over.

The joys of being pregnant with bubbas... lol

Matilda's necklace is a baltic amber teething necklace -

Wearing Baltic amber close to the skin is a traditional European remedy for baby teething. A natural analgesic, amber will help calm a baby without resorting to drugs.
Used for centuries in Europe, Amber's natural anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties are perfect to soothe teething babies.

Amber is a fossilized resin, which warms against the skin, releasing its therapeutic properties safely and naturally.

Baltic amber teething necklaces are made for wearing (not chewing) when a baby or toddler is teething. The warmth of the skin releases the active ingredient in the Baltic amber, succinic acid, which is absorbed into the bloodstream.

Recent scientific research has proved that succinic acid has a very positive influence on the human body. It improves immunity and the balance of acids when absorbed into the bloodstream, it stimulates the thyroid glands to help reduce drooling and soothes inflamed red cheeks.

Amber's anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties are recognised by allopathic medicine as a natural analgesic, which will help to relieve teething pain and calm a baby without resorting to drugs.
I am not a fan of antibiotics either but with her history of respitory distress it is hard to avoid in these situations .

Through the worst of the night waking I have Matilda in bed with us as it is easier to comfort her when she is in with us, plus it is way to cold to get up every 10 minutes even if her cot is only a foot away.

We always have her cot boosted but it hasn't really helped us with this. I do find she sleeps better when she is in with us and sleeping on a high pillow.

We only have one tooth as well and it is only just peeking through so we have a alot of fun ahead of us!

Great i might have to look into those, one of the girls @ MG is a naturopath so might see what other suggestions she has, i am not normally into all the naturopath stuff but i do believe i would be happy if there are natural alternatives to filling them with panadol etc, thats why i LOVE brauers.

Does Matilda try and chew on it or take it off, does she sleep with it on?
I try and leave Ava in her room as long as possible but when things get bad i let her in with us, had to the other night for a bit cos she was squashing #2 trying to cuddle me but DP snores so she doesn't settle all that well and seems to wake quite a bit with us or even if we stay somewhere in the same room as her... cheeky girl.

Well fingers crossed for us both that the girls teething settles soon and the bubs2b can rest and relax easy, got our 18-20wk scan tonight as got OBS appt on thurs so getting done early, we should hopefully find out what were having... OMG scary!

It is too short for her to chew on but is still long enough not to choke her. She doesn't even know it is there really.
I peronally do not leave it on overnight but I do know women who do, I am not willing to take the chance.

I prefer natural remedies if possible but in saying that if she needs medication I am happy to give it to her. I personally do not find panadol very effective and a cuddle seems to be alot more satisfiying for her , she is a very calm girl.

Good luck with your scan tonight, I have mine at 2pm this afternoon, I already know that I am having another girl though as I had a CVS at 13 weeks.
I guess I will see your results in our belly buddies thread, I need to head in there and update everyone, I have been a little lazy this week.

Thanks again, i might go update the BB's too.

Yeah i fought with my MIL about giving her panadol, she said to use it if she is in pain, i said i would prefer to use the brauers and gel if need be and save panadol for night if she is REALLY irritated (more for her sake to get a good nights sleep), then poor Ava got a temp of like 39 and MIL said told you to give her panadol, but i know it wouldn't have made a dif and only give it ONCE the temp reaches 38... hmm it's been hard with her when i thought it would be easy now with #2 on the way it's only going to get worse.

I let Ava watch her shows in the morning and i have a play on here and facebook, now she's on the move though think that time might start to dwindle... hehe as i can't see her from here, she has a play centre i put her in for a bit though so i can get stuff done without worrying she is trying to kill herself on the coffee table or couch.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a link with teething and say a cold anr/or chest infection?
We were talking about this here yesterday.
I would think that there would be a greater chance of picking up a bug when teething purely for the fact that they are more likely to be sticking anything and everything in their mouths so often.
So by volume there would be a greater risk of them catching something...

Charlotte always seems to get a runny nose when she was teething, not sure though if there is an actually bodily link between respiratory illness adn teething.

I hope your little one gets better soon! We found here the best thing was lavender steam in their room at night, a vicks type rub and lots of cuddles...and breastfeeds! lol
