    Zantac rash??

    Hi ladies,

My little bubba has been on Zantac for just over a week now as he was having all the symptoms of reflux. His dosage has been 2ml 3 times a day as he is 7kg at 9 weeks old. The thing is, over the last 3 days he has developed a red raised rash on his face and shoulder tips that seems to be itchy. Was originally thinking he had eczema and had been applying cream to the spots and thought it was helping. I decided to read the notes on Zantac and apparently a rash can be a side effect. Have any of you ladies had this happen before? Am going to call the Dr tomorrow and will stop the Zantac until I have spoken to them just in case. Just seemed a bit of a coincidence that's all. Thanks in advance

Hi there, I just worked out his dose and for a 7kg child the maximum daily dose according to zantac manufacturers is 1.6ml 3 times a day.

I do know a lot of kids that go over, with no problems, zantac is a very safe drug, doctors generally prescribe it wrong, but maybe in him this little bit extra is causing a rash.

We have never had a problem with this kind of side effect though. I would say that it would be a rare one thoguh, cause zantac in iteself is an antihistamine and it should take away rashes.

    Thumbs up Hi there

I Have just recently had to put my son on zantac, and guess what i read your bubs birth date and blow me down my little man kade was born on the same day at 1.08am friday the 18th jan, Kade also has a rash but i thought it was like a heat rash or that my husband and i get a similar rash so i thought nothing of it. I just contacted my GP as the zantac has helped a bit, but he still screams in pain as he has silent reflux, and it isnt just a scream, its horrendous and i cant watch my baby scream in pain like that anymore, i cant go anywhere incase he starts, so have just got a referall to a paediatrician, even if she tells me the same at least it will set my mind at ease.

Let me know what your doctor said....
