if you luteal phase (O to AF) is less than 10 days, it is deemed too short to be successful in holding a pregnancy. i would suggest tracking ovulation signs using a program like fertility friend, or with OPK's for a couple of months, and if O is late each cycle and your luteal phase is short go and speak to your Gp about your concerns

in a "normal" healthy couple, it's not unusual to take up to 12 months to conceive, so you may find you get resistance from your GP if you go in sooner - hence me suggesting you track your cycles and go in armed with "evidence" that your luteal phase is not long enough to help you in conceiving

Hmm, good point, 'normal' isn't really relevant when it comes to our reproductive systems!

I've read up on short luetal phases and yeah, that's a bit frightening! I'm not overly worried yet but I just don't fancy stuffing around for months only to be told I need some tests, etc so I'll definitely bring it up with GP on Monday. I've been keeping notes on a few things (have taken a couple of temps too but I'm not consistent) so I should have enough amo to warrant some further investigation. My history of endo should help (hmm, doens't sound quite right!) as there was always the concern that I may have difficulties conceiving.

Midnightsun - thanks, I hope so too! Which OPK do you recommend?

Thanks for the advice and info!

I know this thread has been 'dead' awhile but just saw it and was wondering what your dr said, Taurean. I have had pretty irregular cycles in the past, but lately have been 28-30 days with O at day 20. My dr did bloods to confirm O, but didn't seem at all concerned about the short luteal phase (I didn't know about the 10 day thing until I read it here). So, I was wondering what your dr said as it would be useful for me too.
I also have a history of endo, but this didn't seem to push dr into doing anything early- he said the 12month mark is when I should look for a referral to a fs, but is happy to test dh so we are armed with any info we need to get the ball rolling quickly after 12 months.

Beatrix - so glad to hear of your success - there is hope!
JLeigh - how funny, our 'personals' are almost identical! My GP didn't have much to say about my suspected short leutal phase - she actually just smiled at me and congratulated me on my "research" but suggested I just sit back and enjoy the ride and try not to analyse things too much just yet. She said my endo seems good (last gyno suspected it had begun to reverse - I'm still concerned about the damage caused in my teenage years though!) and I should see her in 6-9 months if we'd had no luck.

I feel really good and my endo has definitely subsided but I'll definitely be going back to my doc in 6 months if we haven't go the BFP by then.

Beatrix - thanks for sharing your story!
Taurean - I think you are me! I am also a Taurus and our dr's seem to have told us the same thing. Hopefully we'll both get our BFP's soon! Good luck!

Hi there Taurean, I have a short luteal phase as well but have discovered the benefits of vitamin B6. I take 100mg in the morning and my LP has gone from 8 - 9 days to about 12. Might be something to give a shot seeing your GP has been so uninterested so far. Best of luck in your ttc journey hun, may it be short and sticky
