Well FINALLY my gyno appt with Mike Aitken was today.
He was almost an hour late (!) but it was worth the wait. He is fabulous! Very easy to talk to and very personable. And he apologised for the lateness - some pregnant emergency..
So he has confirmed that yes, I am NOT ovulating. He says that my problems are NOT related to being on BCP for so long - more likely a combination of irregular AF prior to BCP, and, of course, stress Just as I predicted.
So I'm not producing enough FSH.
So we're going to 1) get DH swimmer's checked (just incase) and 2) get my tubes checked
and then we'll qualify for the subsidised FSH injections Apparently you have to prove that everything else is *ok* before you can get the FSH (ie no point having FSH if your tubes are blocked!).
And then hopefully I'll start ovulating and we can catch that egg
So plan is to have 1) and 2) done in the next few months and then the FSH injections around July (which is when we want to start TTC).
In the mean time if AF arrives by herself, I'm to get the tracking BT's done to see what happens...
Phew! All a bit much to take in for one day I think. But I want to find out about the HyCoSy procedure - I suspect it's going to be rather unpleasant. Anyone want to share their experience of it??
Hey Mrs P ~ we really are similar aren't we?!??! You have probably read in other strands that I have been to see my fubulous gyno twice now and am pleased with the progress!! You sound like your going through exactly the same steps as I am. My BTs also showed that I'm NOT ovulating and that I have mild PCO by the looks of it. He has suggested the exact same thing as you- that there is no point putting me on something until we know that 1/ the piping is clear hehe and 2/ that DH is ok - Although it's pretty obvious I'm the problem!! Hence I will be having a Laparoscopy in a couple of weeks to suss out my insides.... then hopefully something to get me ovulating and catching those naughty little eggs! Has anyone reading this had the Laparoscopy done before??? We have to put it off for a few weeks until we get answers on how much it is going to cost us 'out of pocket' with HBA hospital insurance etc!!!! Why aren't these things ever simple?? So frustrating!! I am starting to get a little down about it all - and really disappointed that it looks like falling pregnant is going be quite hard and requires patience....
I'm so glad you're getting somewhere and I really am hoping that you get the answers and progress you're wanting!
smuggle - I haven't had a laproscopy to get this kind of thing checked out, but my sister did a few months ago. She had abdominal pain and then a very low +ve on a blood test for pg. The laproscopy was pretty easy she says (and she does not handle pain well!) and they removed her appendix at the same time. They found fluid in one of her tubes so suspect an ectopic pg that had taken care of itself (btw she is single and wasn't planning a pg so this was not devestating news as it would have been in other circumstances, IYKWIM). She was home later in the day and up and about the next, working a few days later. And like I said, not good with pain! As for cost, it was all done in a public hospital and didn't cost her anything, but maybe that was because of the issue with pain she was having to cause her to be admitted?
Hope that helps!

: Forgot cost issues
Hi Mrs P I have had the HSG x-ray done and it is a little bit uncomfortable but really not that bad. They start like they are doing a pap smear and place a catheter into the cervix and then they put up a little baloon which holds the catheter in place, this for me was the uncomfortable bit. Once that is done they put the liquid through, take the x-ray and you go from there. I didn't have any blockages so I was fine to go straight away but I think if there is something there they do try and remove it by pushing some more of the dye through. Good luck with your journey. I hope it is a short one for you
Hi Smuggle - I'm glad you are getting some answers too. I've decided to wait for a couple of months, maybe until about April, to get the HSG done. Just incase AF returns on her own! I'm still a bit freaked out by the whole concept. I'm expecting the HSG to cost at least $200 but will get some back from medicare (I hope?) but probably none back from HBF. Can anyone comment on this?
Ktgirl - glad to hear the HSG isn't too bad.. that catheter sounds scary though! Do you remember how much it cost you?
Also has anyone had the FSH injections and can they comment on cost?
Hi Mrs P my HSG was with QLD x-ray and was around $235 but I did get some of that back from Medicare but I can't remember how much.
You will be fine with the uncomfortable bits. I kept thinking to myself that giving birth is going to be so much worse so try and think of it like that.
I have also done the FSH injections while doing an IUI cycle. I singed a form at my FS and for the whole cycle I was only out of pocket about $30 but that also included the insemination and sperm washing. I had to pay about $550 but most of it I got back. although others on here have to pay a lot more to do an IUI cycle so I think it probably depends on where you go.

I am booked in for the same, lap and hysteroscopy on 6th march. it has already been cancelled twice, the first time they were just about to get me ready, and the anaethetist told me i was cancelled! not happy jan! then they cancelled me the day before, which was just last week, my gyno went to south africa.... hopefully 3rd time lucky???
