    Conception and pregnancy foods

Hi Just wondering if anyone else has planned on the foods they will eat when they are pregnant? I personally am cutting out ALL processed foods, and stocking up on fresh foods Are there any particular foods to avoid like the plague? Also I heard eating certain foods can help reduce the risks of allergies, such as peanut butter etc. OH and I already don't smoke, and I am not fond of drinking so not worried about that
Anyone else over think things like I do? lol

Consider your caffeine intake. Also, when it comes to herbal teas, some are not recommended or should be limited, so that's worth looking at. My diet didn't really change a lot, I just followed my body. One thing I had lots of in first trimester was thin lentil soup - just carrot, celery, lentils and stock, puréed and frozen in mugs, so I could just heat it up and have it ready to go.

I have heard the allergy thing but I think the current recommendation is not to avoid anything.

Thankyou for your reply I don't drink caffeine or energy drinks, I do have pepsi max sometimes, but I will be cutting this out as well.
I actually eat healthy at the moment regardless so not much change

Think about what you'll do when you go out. So if you're in a food court, what will you get? And if you go out to a pub? And at the airport... Picnics, all those situations that are different to at home. How will you hide the fact that you're not drinking, if that's something you need to do?

Good point about the food court Picnics I would bring my own I don't drink with people at the moment anyway as I am designated driver for OH I don't like the sensations alcohol give me. What should I get in the food court? I usually op for the salads like Sumo Salad and Subway.

Food court salads can be a Listeria risk, and so many people choose not to have them during pregnancy. sushi is another 'healthy' food that many women avoid during pregnancy due to risk of Listeria. food courts are just difficult.

I'm really naughty, i eat sushi (though vegetarian) ham and soft cheeses through my pregnancies. But no meats that have been sitting anywhere, like a heated plate or in a sandwich in a deli, and with cheese and ham I'll buy some from the deli and eat it that day while it is still fresh.

I think is all ends up coming down to personal choice When it comes to it, and there is a lovely piece of brie cheese sitting in front of me, I cant promise not to eat it - unless a doctor has told me otherwise obviously. I guess I am just wondering if what we eat during pregnancy actually affects the baby? I know the obvious like caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes and the like are a no- no, which will make no difference to me.

When my younger sister got pregnant, her and her b/f moved in with myself and OH - I was a heavy smoker, but I quit during her stay as I didn't want to affect the baby with second-hand smoking - never looked back.
