Did you know your baby before you conceived?

Has anyone ever got a strong feeling before they conceived like they knew they were going to conceive soon or knew it was going to be a boy/girl, or felt a connection to their baby before it was even conceived or born?

In some traditions it's believed the baby's spirit is picked out before conception. And I think I've heard someone say that they knew they were going to conceive a boy the cycle they conceived but can't remember who it was.

It would be very interesting to know so share your experiences!!

    Hi SaraJane!

I beleive i felt the spirits of my babies while pregnant, but not so much before conception.

As i lost both my angel babies, i beleive i also felt those spirits fade away and return from time to time.... and this pregnancy feels very similar to my first, and i beleive i am going to have a baby boy... we will have to wait and see!!!

i knew id conceived right away..... we weren't trying, but the next day i just knew.... i did a pregnancy test just days later and it came up positive, i was about a week shy of expecting AF... it was a huge shock but at the same time it wasn't, because i knew all along, if that makes sense.

about three weeks before i went into labour, i had the most vivid dream i was holding my baby, and she was a girl, she had brown hair and the most amazing big blue eyes... she wasn't a newborn in the dream, more like about a 10 month old in the face.... everyone had thought i was having a boy but after that dream i told my partner we were having a girl, because i met her in my dream last night and i described the way she looked.... the spooky thing is, my dd looks IDENTICAL to the baby i dreamed of, it was her i dreamt of, the only difference was her hair was longer in my dream, whereas my dd's hair has taken a while to grow, but the big amazing blue eyes, she has them. everyone comments on her eyes.

I'm not sure about before conception, but my DH would only ever really talk about a girl...he was going to build her a billy cart and let her help fix the EH etc etc.

Just after I found out, he didn't know how desperatley I wanted a girl as I had never told a soul, and went to pick up some groceries. He came home with a pink newborn dummy. I know in your heart you want a girl, and it's going to be one he said as he handed over the dummy. That dummy sat on the microwave the whole pregnancy. I was 100%positive Darcy was going to be a boy.....well she's not, but I wish I knew what he knew...

I dreamt of both my daughter and son the night before I got my with Jack I knew we were having a boy right fromt hat moment he is earily similiar to the boy in my dream, as for Katy I will never know what she may have looked like but I still dream of that same little girl she was never a baby in my dreams always a little girl of 2 or 3 it makes me smile to think I know what she would have looked like even though she is not here

Rach, i often dream of my angel girl Zahra, and she is the same, never a baby, always a little girl in a white dress with a pink sash..

And kim, my hubby has predicted 100% so far with absolute belief, he said he just knew. He predicts boy this time!!

I dreamt of my son while I was prg but not before. I was holding a baby boy with lots of dark hair. When he was about to be born and I was pushing I said to him (not out loud) "I know you're my baby boy". Sure enough a few minutes later, he came out, full head of dark hair, which turned out to be curly and everyone who sees him comments on it! I just had this sense of "yep, there you are, I've known you all along". I had the same sense when my daughter was born, but not as strong.

I cannot explain why but I am certain the baby we lost was a little girl. I feel more convinced of that now than ever.

Nope. I felt really disconnected to River before he was born, I just have a hard time realising baby in tummy = baby outside. If that makes sense. Many times I didn't even feel pregnant. I really worried about that, that I wouldn't bond, but then he was born, and we connected straight away, so I had nothing to worry about!

Having said that, we had a boys name since before he was conceived, and hadn't settled on a girl's name entirely, and I'd bought mostly blue and green stuff (but perhaps that's because green's my fave colour, and I really didn't want a pink little girl - it just wasn't my thing).

I think I believe in life/personality at conception, I just wasn't aware of Riv's til he was born really.

This one - well, it's hard to know. I think I don't want to guess, because I don't want to put bub in a 'box' - my MIL does that - x is the sporty one, y is the smart one, z is the musical one...
I'll just wait til I meet bub, and let their personality speak for itself. So, while I don't feel super connected now, my experience with Riv's told me it'll probably be fine once bub's born.

    Wow this is interesting!

Well I haven't had a baby YET but last month I had a VERY vivid dream that I had twin girls with huge brown/hazel eyes, not identical, they were probably 6 - 9 months old and I conceived by being on top... time will tell if this comes true!

The other night I dreamt that I had a + ve pregnancy test but was spotting so I took another one which was also +ve and very strong. I'm spotting now but am sure that AF is coming tomorrow. Oh and I usually dream about AF coming a week or so before she does! It's amazing how in tune we are to our bodies.

    Hi Sara!

I thought I was having a girl as soon as I knew I was pg. Even before finding out the sex at 18 weeks, i had only bought girls clothes and everything was pink! Even before I did the hpt I felt I was pg and just kind of knew... So i believe you can have a connection like that with your baby

    Yes,
I am totally sure that when i next fall its a girl. I'm always having spooky things happen. I have dreams of a newborn baby girl suckling at my breast.Or being pregnant and watching the ultrasound to be told its a girl and when i wake up in the morning i'm devestated as there is no baby in my arms or in my belly. I'm only attracted to girls names;almost feel its uneccesary to look at boys names and cant stop myself looking at newborn little girly clothes.

well my mum knew before i told her. i rang her and she said 'are you pregnant?' i said yes i was!!! i couldnt belive it. she told me she was at work and just in the middle of doing her job turned to my dad (they work together) and said 'holly is pregnant and she hasnt bloody told me yet'. how wierd is that?!?? especially cause no one knew i was off the pill and trying. i also knew my DD would be a girl from early on. i had to find out at the 18 week scan because i didnt want to be bonding with the girl that i knew i would have and then on the off chance it turn out to be a boy at birth.. i think that would have really thrown me. oh and a few weeks before she was born i gues si was getting a little stressy, but i had a dream where i was holding her and i rubbed my lips across the babys head and it was all soft and warm and i knew everything would be ok! :-)

Wow, these stories are amazing. It's funny how we have senses we don't even know about and that science hasn't been able to explain. Really interesting, keep them coming!

I didn't dream of my own daughter ... BUT I did have a dream about my nephew when my older sister was pregnant with him.

I described his colouring & looks (coppery brown hair & big brown eyes, but his facial features looking like me). He turned out to be exactly that !!

... Everyone thought that was funny until he was born & especially when He started looking the spitting image of myself as a toddler ... Everyone was amazed.

By the way, my sister is a brunette with hazel eyes.

Though now at 12 he looks more like more sister's facial features, LOL

i had a dream when i was preg with my first angel... i dreamt that i had a baby in a baby carrier thing and a friend and myself took him into a forest and sat him in an abondoned bus next to another baby in another baby carrier (a girl) and left them there, as we walked away i didnt feel like i was abandoning the baby, just leaving them there together for a while, i lost my little boy, and then afterwards i lost a little girl, i am preg again and i have ALWAYS wanted twins a boy and a girl(since i was a kid), my mum thinks i am preg with twins now, but i have had one scan and there was only one bub, but she is still convinced one is hiding in there somewhere!!! We will have to wait and see!!
