I had this problem last night at a house party we went to. By the time we got there everyone was drunk though (that's the UK's binge drinking problem for you!) so no one noticed that I was just drinking the mixers. It was strange how often people came over and inspected my glass to see that I had enough to drink though. At one point I got fed up of orange juice so I had some water and someone remarked on it and I said "Oh I'm just having a break, pacing myself" from orange juice obviously! My DH and I virtually gave up drinking last year anyway (I probably had about a glass of wine a fortnight) as it wasn't helping his depression and we felt so healthy having done it (he lost two stone too- that's lager for you) that we haven't been tempted to go back to previous levels. It's scary though how much social pressure there is to drink and of course when you don't everyone just assumes you're TTC! When someone does notice that I'm not drinking and starts poking I generally say that I've got a headache and have just taken pills or that I've got a hangover or that I'm on a detox diet. We used the detox diet excuse last year to cover the fact that neither of us was drinking as my DH didn't want any of our friends or family to know about the depression and it did seem to work as it wasn't far from the truth!
