hello everyone, I will be ttc in a few months if all goes to plan, so currently im trying to sort my body out. I have reduced the amount of caffeine im consuming daily from about 8 cups to 2 cups of coffee a day, but on that note, ive found myself replacing it with tea, not herbal tea, just *normal* tea. Is this ok? What are your thoughts?
As well, im quitting smoking (god help me and anyone around me), last week I was chewing on gum as a replacement occasionally and today is my first atttempt at not picking up a cigarette and instead some gum.
I also started taking some supplements multivits, natures own pregnancy platinum, has anyone heard of these or used them?
In general im pretty healthy aside from the above, my weight is good, but id like to get motivated and start excersising, I even bought myself some sneakers instead of my usual converse boots. I also bought a swimming suit. So the intention of getting fit is there, I just have to cross some other hurdles like motivation before I get right into it. Why is it when you get older that everything seems so much damn harder than it did when you were like 20 or something lol
So aside from my rant, has anyone got any advise on the caffeine versus tea thing and of course the multi vits?
Well may not be able to help you a whole lot. But I do know tea contains caffeine to, you can get decaffeinated tea- but have to be careful there because some use chemicals to remove the caffeine from it- so just check first. Having said that you can get decaffeinated coffee also- but make sure it isn't chemically filtered.
Good to see you are getting your body healthy before conceiving. I am going to start TTC in a couple of months also (would prefer to start again now, but DF wants to wait til after the wedding now).
Good luck, i'm sure other members on BB will be able to give your more advice then me, cos i'm just new at this also.
Basically, tea and coffee can be the same, caffeine-wise, so I'd advise cutting down on both tea and coffee. I know it sounds boring, but water is best!
Good luck with quitting smoking - that's probably the biggest thing you can do.
All I've read says that you should treat your body as if you're already pregnant when ttc. So...
Little or no alcohol!
Start taking folate (and maybe consider iodine too). You need to start taking it about 3 months before ttc.
It might also be a good idea to visit your doc and get tested for rubella immunity. There are a few other tests the dr might do too so ask.
Hello and thanks for responding. I new tea had caffeine in it also but the decaffinated coffee might be good water is the best i agree. I had a stack of tests done a couple of months ago and im free of rubella and any other nasties, which is great! I might go and see my doc about the vits and any other ideas she has about it all. good idea JL about treating my body today like it was pregnant, thanks for the insight.
congrats Em on your wedding plans and I wish you all the best for ttc.
It is great to take multivit's but the best absorption comes from eating food containing the vitamins/minerals.
Do you eat much fresh fruit/vegies/eggs/nuts etc? Best way to cover your bases on the fruit and veg front is to eat all the different colours - each colour is a different goody! Plenty of healthy fats are important too (nuts/eggs/tuna etc) as fat helps transport hormones (plus keeps your skin/hair looking great, and improves heart health etc).
