I have a question that may sound naive but here goes. We are ttc, this is cycle 3 and this time I used opk, it showed I O'd and so we BD'd alot, pre & post O. My af is due on Sun so I tested this am with one of those early detection test and got a BFN. How is it that you can O and have sperm there to meet & greet with some follow up guys for back up and still not be pregnant? I have been pregnant twice before, both times first go with no extra attention like opk. Sadly 1st pregnancy ended 2nd tri, mmc, no cause just wasnt meant. 2nd time our GORGEOUS DD, who is now 18mths. I guess I am anxious because I am 38yrs old soon to turn 39!
There's a lot of factors I think. I think eggs can be pretty particular as to which sperm they let in.. it's not always first in first served LOL. And even if the egg is fertlised, it still has to make the journey down and implant in the uterus, and that's not a certainty either. Then there's the environment within the uterus, can be affected by foods, illness etc, which can make it sperm friendly or non-friendly, and can possibly affect implantation too.
If only it were as easy as sperm meets egg
Good luck with your TTC. Remember tho that even with younger healthy couples it can take 6 months or more of trying to fall pregnant. So don't stress just yet
I just wanted to add that it may still be too early to get a BFP, even if you used an early detection test. I tested two days before AF was due with DS#2 and got a BFN, I then waited until I was 2 days overdue and finally got a nice strong BFP.
I also think it's probably simply too early to get a BFP, even with an early test. In my experience those early tests have never actually given me a BFP any earlier than a standard test has! You just have to give it some time, it is still very early days.
It could be many many things.... maturity of the egg released, whether or not there even was an egg released, the quality of the lining for the fertilised egg to implant in, the acidity and general quality of the cervical mucous at the time of intercourse, the quality of the sperm, whether or not there are enough progressive sperm with no defects, whether or not the sperm can reach the egg (think tubal blockages or endo) etc etc etc. It is a wonder anyone falls pregnant at all!
Most doctors will tell you there is only a 22% chance of falling pregnant each month. TTC takes time. Sit back and enjoy ( or lie back, lol... )
By the way, I am very sorry to hear of your miscarriage . Its a tough thing to go through. My thoughts are with you and your angel bub.
