Ok, so after a rollercoaster ride of emotions, fears and going a tad insane, we are on the record and are ttc.
I have been advised by my gyne that if I want to get pg again, I should take the folic acid along with Vit B6 (50mg per day) Ok, that I have been doing for about a month and a half, started right after I stoped taking my pill. (BTW has anyone noticed how Vit B6 taste just like dirt??)
After getting the flu for the second time this year I have bought some Viral Gaurd. It's a immune support pill. I know it's not going to keep me from getting sick, but it might just keep the flu from hitting me so hard.I'm testing this.
It has the following nutrients in it:
Probotics, Echinacea Extract, Glucan Pur, Elderberry Extract, Aged Garlic, Absorption Enzymes, Vit A, B12, B6, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vit C, D, E, Iron, Zinc, Selenium and L-Methionine.
I checked the enclosed slip to see if pg women can use this, but I saw nothing to say yes or no. I'm not pg YET, but last time it took me a month and I am just scared that it might happen that fast again and then I have been taking something that could harm the baby.
Can anyone spot something that I should not be taking?????? Do you think I must just stop using this?? I am taking one pill a day.

I know I stopped taking my usual vitamins when I fell pregnant because they contained a fair amount of Vitamin A which can cause birth defects. It actually stated that on my vitamin bottle as well (which is why I stopped!). I was still taking it when ttc and since fell pregnant on the first month trying with my DS, I was taking it for about 6 weeks into the pregnancy (at least!) without knowing it could cause them. Thankfully nothing happened, but I went off them again this time round when we were ttc (and again, fell pregnant first month trying).
I didn't think you could take echinacea when pregnant - but not 100% sure on that - could be pregnancy brain playing tricks on me.
Good luck with TTC!!!!!!
Thanks pitapata. I did just that and the FIRST one I googled (thanks too Aricyn's Mum) was Echinacea and low and behold ... unsafe. So I am chucking them. Neither is Elderberry
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!
You shouldn't take any vitamins with Vitamin A in them when pregnant![]()
If you want to take a supplement, take Elevit...it is designed to be taken whilst pregnant, breastfeeding and trying to conceive.
Just make sure you read the label, cos you can take too much of it if you do more than the recomended dose.
Also, remember that vitamin supplements will only be of any help if your vitamin intake is inadequate...Your body cannot store them adn you will only end up excreting them in your urine
Good luck TTC too!![]()
Can you get a pregnancy multivitamin where you are? Here we have a few options & they might help....
Thanks for the advice. I did not want to buy preggie vits already. They are quite expensive just because they are "tailor made", kwim? I was hoping to save a few buck BEFORE getting pg, I was going to start taking them asap after I get a BFP.
Good point LimesliceSometimes advertisements does really work, even though you KNOW it's just a gimmick. I do eat healthy, except for the odd choccie or ice cream, so I'll chat to my gyne when I go for my first u/s.
