DP and I have started TTC #2 only drama is DP works away - he does a 28 day cycle and is only ever home for 7 days at a time - seems the timing is never going to be right! I have had 3 previous pregnancies (2 miscarriages and one beautiful baby boy) each planned with little effort involved and the added bonus of DP being home full time. I have a very limited knowledge of conception/ovulation - it's always just happened without having to think about it - now that things aren't happening so easily I'm not sure what to do. Our GP's has suggested to just keep trying as it's early days- surely there has got to be a way to increase our chances, right? So can someone point me in the right direction please TIA
I know the IVF labs can 'adjust' women's cycles so they fit into the time for their appointments. Could you use the contraceptive pill to move your cycle to line up with when your hubby is home ? i'm not up with the specifics on how to do it but hopefully someone here knows.
Here's my uneducated guess FWIW- if you need to add a week to your cycle take a month on pills and then instead of the sugar pills, take another week of active pills. not sure if it would adjust your cycle forever though or just for that month.
You should log onto a free website called "fertility friend" , start charting your cycle, by taking temps, and observing your CM etc, that way you will know when you ovulate (step 1) You may be pleasantly surprised that you o when he is in town..
My DH works away off and on, and it's a little different for me than you, b/c of my age. However, depending on how much medical intervention you want, and how long he is away for, you can freeze his sperm, and have IUI's, that may be way too much to think about right now, but it is a viable option if he's away work is continual for the next couple of years. The sperm thaws really well.
The only problem with the pill is it may shut down your hormones and muck things up.....I would IMO try to keep it as natural as possible

Have to say I agree with wouldloveabubba there. The pill changes the ph level of your vaginal mucous from alkaline to acidic. Sperm thrive in an alkaline environment, and hence this helps to explain why the pill is an effective form of contraception. For an optimum healthy conception it is advisable that you be off synthetic hormones for at least three months and practice pre-conceptual care in this period before trying to conceive.
It sounds like you could really benefit from this fabulous book, 'The Natural Way to Better Babies - Preconceptual Healthcare for Prospective Parents' by Francesca Naish.
The book goes into great detail about how to monitor your fertility and naturally modify your cycle length, optimum nutrition, as well as how to remove the toxins from your bodies and your surrounding environment which are common barriers to conception.
It is an extremely informative and empowering read.
