Oh Heaven, so sorry to hear about that nasty GP.

I would personally still TTC this cycle. I have an underactive thyroid controlled with medication and yes, it can be bad for the baby but ONLY if it is severely underactive and then you probably would have had heaps of symptoms of it...

Also, not that i want you to cry more, but medication can take 6 weeks to kick in and get you back to normal levels.
Thanks Bloom. That's why I was worried, because it will take too long for the medication to work and if I got pregnant this cycle it might be bad for the baby. How do I know how bad it is? I looked up the symptoms and I don't think I have many of them, so it's a bit confusing. What were the BT's for I got today do you think? Will it give me more info or just to confirm that I have it?

    What now?

Thanks everyone. I have been googling and finding out more info. Now I don't know what to do about this cycle. Should I not TTC? I think I will ovulate in the next week. But apparently hypothyroidism is really bad for the baby. The thought of having to stop TTC makes me want to cry but a m/c would be worse
Phone up the clinic at Indro I mentioned earlier, they're really easy to get into and so helpful, I see dr Haines

    Thanks Ali

Feeling a bit better today. DH actually had to go to the Dr yesterday afternoon, a different one to me which he really likes (I just still haven't changed clinics since last time we moved). While he was there he saw they had people who specialised in women's health and fertility. So he asked his Dr about it and said she was really nice and she knew what he was talking about and could definitely help. They said not to worry about going back to the other Dr because they didn't know what they were on about, LOL. So he made an appointment for me there for Monday and they will get my results for me. Hopefully this Dr will actually listen to me and I can sort everything out

Thanks Goldengirl85, that's my next stop if it doesn't work out with this Dr, fingers crossed though!!

So, I just rang the Dr to try and get the results out of them. A bit worried still about what to do about TTC. I think I might ovulate before I see the Dr on Monday so I can't ask if we should try yet or not.

She didn't want to tell me the results because the Dr wanted to see me but I did get out of her that my TSH was still 7 and T4 is 14. So I looked up what T4 is supposed to be and that seems to be fine or even a bit higher than normal. So confused, can anyone shed some light on what that might mean while I'm waiting for the Dr on Monday?

    Re: What now?

Will reply with results details when on PC but I have hypothyroidism caused by Hashimotos so antibodies - prior to getting pregnant with DD the levels were borderline for requiring thyroxine. When got blood tests done at 4 weeks my results were then shocking and the GP scared me a little by getting me an urgent appointment with endocrinologist that afternoon - I went on thyroxine straight away and DD is totally fine - levels are most important in first tri because after that babies own thyroid kicks in. The way endo explained to me, was that my levels had gone so shocking was because the baby was taking the hormones leaving
me depleted so baby was not deficient at that time but left untreated then could have led to baby not getting enough. So in your position I would TTC and just make sure you follow up getting thyroid levels on track, and even if they say levels don't require treatment now make sure you are tested as soon as pregnant to check still ok.

Can't find exact levels of T3, T4, but I had TSH levels ranging from 30 when conceived to 90 when first got pregnant, and as I said I got on the thyroxine straight away and DD perfectly fine - so I would TTC and take it from there.

TSH of 7 seems a little high, (one of the reasons I never got put on thyroxine earlier was because my T3 and T4 levels appeared within range - but the endocrinologist seems to be more concerned with the TSH level than the others) - so I would make sure whatever doc says you keep an eye on it, and also make sure doc knows TTC as optimum levels are a bit different for TTC/early pregnancy.

Thanks wysiwyg!! Wow 90!! 7 doesn't seem so bad then, LOL. I don't know how I can go a month without trying anyway, seems like such a waste

As far as I know, if thyroxine levels are 'within normal limits' but TSH (ie, thyroxine stimulating hormone) is high, it means your system is having to really work extra hard to stimulate the thyroid to make enough thyroxine, which means that if your system is under any extra demand (like getting pregnant) then it might not be able to cope. I think that's the way it works, anyway. I think it's great that you're finding out what the issues are now, and hopefully you'll conceive this cycle and be managing the levels from the very start.

Been to the Dr and she was great and much nicer. Took ages explaining everything to me The bad news is I have Hashimoto's. Not cool. But at least I know now and hopefully I'll be able to get pregnant sometime soon!

I might start another thread about the Hashimoto's later, would like to hear people's experiences with it.

Heaven, I'm glad you've found a Dr who you respect now. Best of luck with the Hashimoto's. I know I've heard of others on bb who have this, too, though I can't think of who off the top of my head.

Hi Heaven, I've been silently following your thread- I've not had anything helpful to offer but I've been feeLing for you. It's so disheartening and frustrating isn't it. I'm so glad to hear you've found a doctor who listens to and respects you.

Thyroid stim hormone - both these impact/affect conception. Day 21 bloods check to see if you have in fact ovulated! The other two are just vitamin D and iron levels. Not sure how/if they impact conception but my specialist ordered them all together
I'd be looking at whats going on with your Thyroid too. My sister had dramas and it was her Thyroid. Shes had 3 pregnancies.

I have been put on ostilin because I was D deficient. Vitamin D is also needed for Calcium and Follate retention, as well as being linked to your blood sugar levels. I was also an ex smoker that seriously depleted my nutrients. I've heard some say cut the Coffee, but I really don't think the Coffee would make much dif. Women fall pregnant on much more servere recreationals (IUKWIM) than Coffee??? Cant hurt though.

Let us know if your thyroid is out of whack.

    Cheers

Thought I should update. So, obviously I did TTC that month, and got pregnant Was the first month I'd started taking Iron tablets to sort that out and also the Thyroxine.
