Nay, you say it cleans itself - how exactly?! And how do you use it as a slow cooker - the demonstrator wasn't sure?
I've asked the demonstrator to come here and do a demo to show DH... But much like some of you girls, I don't think I will ever entirely convince him, I think he will agree to make me happy. In fact he has just told me if I can work it into the budget, we can get it.
Now, where's that budget gone???
OP - once you have finished cooking/using, you basically fill the bowl with warmish water to the top of the blades, turn to speed 6 for 10 seconds, then the same on reverse, then to get the water up into the lid, hit turbo, then I just rinse the lid/bowl/seal/MC under a hot tap with an IKEA long handled scrubbing brush, takes 2 seconds, I think you can buy a proper thermomix brush but the IKEA one is about a $1.
Re the slow cooker, it doesn't slow cook as such, but I've found that all the recipes I used to slow cook - beef strog, chicken casserole, soups etc, are tastier and easier in the TM, so I haven't dragged my slow cooker out since.
I just made butter chicken from the Indian cookbook for dinner tonight with a few variations - more puree'd tomato, less chilli and less liquid (water and cream) and its totally killer, cant wait to eat it, making Naan's shortly too!
You'd be able to work it in the budget, mine is paying for itself

I am still waiting for my TMX and can't wait for it to arrive. I am really going to try and work to a tighter budget so am really excited to get in there and see what it can do. I have heard so many people are disappointed at first until they get used to the machine and then after a few weeks it clicks and gets much easier.
OP - when have you got your demo booked for?
MummyNaomi - how was your butter chicken? I am really looking forward to trialling some idian cooking. I have Christine Manfields Taste of India cookbook and I am hoping i can convert some of her recipes for the TMX - is there a secret to converting normal recipes to TMX or do you just get the hang of the machine after a while and just know?
I'm still waiting for the demonstrator to call me!! So annoying! I'm impatient :)

It was delish, however DD woke just as I was finishing the Naan's and serving so by the time she settled again I had gluggy rice, lukewarm butter chicken and soggy Naans - Agggggh, the butter chicken was delish though, heated it in the microwave and it was all good.:
I've converted a few recipes in for the TMX, I usually find the equivalent TMX recipe online to work out cooking times etc, and the first time I cook it I write all the measurements in grams in my cookbooks, its actually really easy once you have the hang of it

I am really excited our machine arrived yesterday and I have already made mayo (actually I put more garlic in as I prefer aoli), fruity dream and porridge. I eat porridge for b'fast most days and hand on heart, I have never had porridge that tastes that yummy! I am so excited. I am going to google some chicken recipes as I am poaching a whole chook on the stove top so wouldn't mind using that meat for something tonight. I can already see this is a good investment as DH was the one who made porridge, it was all made and waiting for me when I got back from the gym this morning :)
Is anyone on here a demonstrator? I bought my machine outright, but am thinking of signing up to be a demonstrater as I am between jobs at the moment and might buy me a bit more time and since I have loads of sales experience it would be nice to do something I am passionate about? I have a few questions if you are a demonstrator:
* How many demonstrations do you do a month?
* what's your average conversion rate?
* Any tips for getting leads for new demos?
OP Have you had your demo yet?
I'm looking into these but please tell me for someone that rarely cooks and works full time am I wasting money??

Do you not cook because you don't have time or because you don't enjoy it? Cooking is very easy with this machine and so far I can see its really simple to create clean food.

It's hard to say... I love to cook but didn't have time, so I know I will use it all the time. Maybe have a demo and see it in action. Then decide??
Yay! Thermomix demo booked for this weekend so I can get the half price bowl and blade set! Also, it's a chance to try out their new menu :).
Not a waste of money at all. It's fantastic because it is so easy and saves you time, meaning it is great if you love cooking and great if you don't. It's a good way to prepare good, wholesome food quickly and easily, avoiding all those nasty packet and jar quick fixes :)

Does anyone else feel guilty for having a demo if no one buys? I would love a demo. But my first didn't get any buyers so I would feel guilty if my second didn't.
Nup Rouge. No one will buy at mine, I'm only having it because I want to convince DH we need one! I think they'd be used to it... It's not like Tupperware or Intimo where you can buy one thing just cuz you feel bad.

Nope. I've been very honest with her - I want one, DH needs convincing,please come to my house and convince him. She explained that to qualify as a "demo" you need two people who don't live there to come, but she doesn't care who they are. So I've invited two friends plus hubbies plus kids, we will fire up the barbie too, she can whizz up a coleslaw for us and show DH, I've told DH he doesn't need to listen to the talking bit but I want him to see it in action. So my friends will listen and the DHs will cook some snags for kids.
It's like a BBQ with a demo thrown in. I guess she can't lose from if, really - my friends themselves might not buy one but they might tell someone else about It who then might buy one, yanno?

Rouge, I felt the same. I told my consultant I didn't think anyone would buy, she wasn't phased at all.
Think of it as a private cooking class :D You might show her a thing or two as well.
Hey OP. The bonus of having more demos is often there is deals on where you can only buy something by having a demo. For example, this month it is a half price bowl, blade and lid set. It would be so handy to have a second one. People i know might use the second one for playdough, washing powder, moisturuser - stuff they want to make in a totally separate bowl. Other just love the second one for the ease of swapover when they are making a few dishes.
Also, there is the basic demo and then the varoma demo which teaches you more about the varoma. And they have just done a bit of switching about with the menus so it can be a good insight to see what is going on behind the scenes at TMX.
I would throw one but i can never convince anyone to come (because a free meal is a bad deal?) and bad month for the BBL set to be on special :( Sigh, wonder if money grows on trees if i dream long enough> ;) ;)

Does it really replace all other benchtop appliances - we have a tiny kitchen - I am not overly convinced yet but since going back to work really think might help us - but we have so little space - can you really get rid of other stuff? I have a mixer thing which I use for mixing stuff occasionally, grating and chopping etc - but would want to get rid of that,if could get rid of slow cooker too would be an added benefit. . Are there any spreadsheets anywhere about how can save you money? Bit of a spreadsheet nerd and I think that would help justify it - but I am not a big spender on groceries anyway.

Honestly Wysiwig, no. It doesn't slow cook, so it doesn't replace that. It does whip, but if you bake it doesn't do a fantastic job at whipping (it's rubbish at egg whites for example), so my kitchenaid is still a necessity for me. It does grate, well chop, so for an aesthetically pleasing look, again I prefer my grater attachment on the kitchenaid.
Now don't get me wrong, I love love love my thermie. The ease with which I can do most stuff is amazing, but I still use much of the rest of my kitchen. I know they say it replaces everything, but for me personally, I don't think that's the case.
Eta there was a chart I got at my demo about the sorts of things it saves you money on. I didn't bother keeping it though as that wasn't the reason I got mine. I'm sure a consultant could hook you up with one.
I asked the same question about slow cooking - the answer I got was that the TMX doesn't do anything slow. :lol: But most of the things I do in the slow cooker I could do in the TMX with different cuts of meat. TBH I never leave the slow cooker on when I'm not here anyway so it kinda defeats the whole "put the slow cooker on, go out for the day, come home and have dinner ready" thing... My slow cooker hasn't come out in a while and I'm more about quick meals these days.
Maybe that'll change in winter ;)
In other news, DH has agreed, after our demo, that we should get one. He was impressed. But he is kind of embarrassed about the price tag - he doesn't want his mates and his parents knowing that we spent 2k on a kitchen appliance :rolleyes: So we are going to sell some stuff on eBay and do a bit of fundraising. He isn't really fussed with HOW much we raise as long as we can say we sold stuff to fund the purchase. Sort of fair enough as we aren't exactly flush with cash given we are on one (very varied and unreliable) income...
Let the fundraising begin.
Thanks for replies - not too fussed about slow cooking as dont use that frequently and wouldnt object to keeping that as doesnt live on bench top. I dont really bake and haven't whipped egg whites while in Oz so prob that shouldn't bother me - does it grate cheese? I tend to buy a block then grate in machine as a money saver - not bothered if it looks more chopped than grated though.
It does that really well. It does a tonne of things really really well. Can you get to a demo? or basic cooking class? (most demonstrators have access to these)

Just to add to the Slow Cooking Question - I haven't used my slow cooker since getting my TMX, I find that the things I used to cook in the slow cooker - Beef Strognoff, Butter Chicken, Soups etc are all just as easy and yummier in the TMX. I've never been one to buy cheap meat and dress it up in the slow cooker though, I tend to buy decent cuts anyway which dont necessarily need to be slow cooked to be tender etc.
However having said that, when I return to work this winter, I can see where I would use my slow cooker again - to cook dinner while I'm at work (I live dangerously!!) so its all done when we walk in the door - so I don't think its necessarily completely redundant.
And WYSIWYG - your craft loving DD will love the fact that you can make playdoh easily in it :)
Yep I've tried every suggestion I can find, but I live in a weird climate, so that might effect it too.
