Just did a big shop in preparation for its arrival lol. The only time I'd be happy about that much money on my credit card lol. So excited, can't wait to start giving it a workout.
Got my thermomix yesterday afternoon. I made chewy choc cookies, banana choc-nut icecream, sorbet, vegetable stock and salami fettuccini last night. And today I've made focaccia and healthy LCM's. Enjoying it so far. I was shaking from excitement yesterday lol.
I went to 2 demps over the weekend. Im sold, purely on the making stuff from scratch and thus saving so much money. I just need to save my butt off now!
Soooo....after saying that I wasn't sure what was so good about Thermomix's was I went to a demo in dec. we are having one at our place on Tuesday. I really want one!
Making my own peri peri sauce and mayonnaise at the moment. I'm on a no sugar diet, and supermarket sauces are so full of sugar. It's nice to be able to make my own sauces and condiments
On high rotation down here are iced coffes, pancakes, mashed potatoes, lots of sides and of course risotto. We make risotto once a week just about, with whatever is in the fridge. My TMX has been a kitchen hand recently, moreso than cooking heaps mains etc, as we all adjust to the new school routine.
One thing I've not been using it for, which I expected to be doing, is school snacks. DD seems happy to go with her sandwich and fruit, so I'm running with that for now. Maybe once she settles in and sorts out eating in 10 mins (lol - not something she's good with) she might need more snacks.
Oh, Steph Berg's French onion dip. I make that once or twice a week too.
And that reminds me of the fail I had the other week. I tried to make hummus. Grabbed a can of chick peas. Whacked them in. No. Not chick peas. Cannellini beans. Fail. Though DH still ate it, lol
Hi ladies
I've had my Thermomix for about 3 months and am stil experimenting a lot with it. I love using it for the side dishes that normally go in a saucepan and either boil over or go off the boil- like steamed rice.
But I can't seem to get mashed potatoes right. They're always unpleasantly gluey! I've used several different types of potatoes, and some are worse than others, but none of them are good. What might I be doing wrong?
I make it pretty much to the EDC recipe...usually. Though I have added pumpkin/sweet potato/zucchini/spinach and adjusted the recipe to suit the 'wetness' of the added veggies. Or I've used tasty cheese instead of parmesan when I didn't have parmy. I have found it to always work for us. But I love the texture of the mash. DH doesn't really though and neither do my two boys, one literally gagged when he tried it! Maybe it just whizzes it up too much for you?
Pholi - I could also be the type of potato you are using? Or if the potato has been around too long and is starting to look worse for wear. I have had one bad batch of mash, the rest of the time perfect. During this pregnancy I could just eat the mash with garlic butter, sour cream and cheese... Mmmmm
