    Lightbulb

I actually went out into the 'gym' (still lacking name lol)
Been thinking about your gym name for a while Leesa and last night had one of those lightbulb moments of inspiration:

Drum roll please............. (with a few to select from - maybe we should do a poll for you )

Hello every1, glad to see we are active in here, didnt do my walking last night, got home and we had to go to my BF's place to pick some stuff up from a weekend bbq....THEN never got to get on X-Trainer this morning, had a BD session instead hehehe
But back to oval today for dog walkies, Im thinking of joining the gym for 6 months, it works out cheaper if I do, currently pay $15 every visit (am only going twice a week) but I think if I pay will be more inclined to go, am considering getting work to cover it through incentive scheme they have running....whats your opinions ladies, do you go to the gym if you have paid the money?! I just dont want it to be a waste IYKWIM?!

MG, I am grinning from ear to ear for you! Well done hon!!!

Speaking of stretching, I need to desperately. My left hip/glute is so tight I'm feeling it 24/7. It's just from sleeping on it as I haven't done any exercise lately.

Winter, I have been meaning to ask you how you got started running. Did you work your way up with any sort of program? I'm thinking doing couch 2 5k as a starter. I started it last year got to about week 6 then stopped as I got pregnant. I'm thinking of doing on my xtrainer, low impact, indoors, can do it a night when kids are sleeping...

Hi Eluned, I got started running by joining a running group with my gym. It was a 6 week training group who met once a week with the trainers and we just ran. Before I started, we had done a 2.5km run with the circuit class that I do a couple of weeks previously and I stopped 2 or 3 times over that distance so totally not a runner! On the first week we did 2.5km and we had to do it as fast as we could as we were being timed. Took me 14 minutes but I didn't stop, that's the power of having others around you to motivate you. Then we went for another 2km run so 4.5km on the first day, but with a nice rest in the middle. Then each week the distances just crept up & up & stops to stretch fell to one in the middle of the run. By week 5 we did 9km and then week 6 another time trial over 2.5km to see if we had improved (which I was sick for but still had improved). It was really important to have a goal to work towards - 10km Challenge Stadium fun run for us - and really important to have a group of supportive people around me to keep me going.

I keep thinking about you when I run around Bibra Lake. It's 6km so easily achievable with your 5km goal in mind, and each 500m is marked around the path. With your injuries, you'd have to take it easy & not push yourself too much, but you could start by running 500m, walk a 1km, run 500m, etc if you ever wanted to have a run with me. I'm a slow coach runner too so don't think that you would cramp my style or anything. I'm here when you're ready!

If you want to do it on your own, I'm not sure what to suggest, because for me running is such a mental game, I really need to have other people / a goal in order to make myself keep running. If the C25K worked for you, then go for it, go back to it! And stretch, stretch, stretch!!!!

You gals are all so inspirational!

I just did 12 minutes on the bike, burning 60 calories. this is good because at 50 calories I thought - that will do... then I could just about see Leesa beside me saying 'you can do more!', so I burned it doing 60! Was yucky to start with but felt good by the end!

Will do it again tomorrow and will try for 15 mins and more than 65 cals..

I'll probably ache tomorrow because I have no idea what stretches to do...

Well done Nettie!!! I remember you posting a while back that you'd just done 6 minutes on the bike, NOW YOU"VE DOUBLED IT!!! and you're adding extra each time! YAY!! That's fantastic!!

Go Nettie! Awesome work! Some stretches you should do are quads (the one where you hold your ankle behind you to stretch your thigh). Also hamstrings (knees slightly bent, lean forward to touch your toes). Don't forget your calves - best way is to stand on stairs on the balls of your feet and drop your heels over the step - make sure you hold something for balance!

Eluned - I'm so excited you're wanting to run! WOOT! You go girl! But I do agree with Winter - take it SLOW! You need to build your muscles and train them to keep your pelvis stable whilst you run. I know it sounds tedious but believe me - worth it! Otherwise you set yourself back and are in pain! Need to build hip, quads, hamstrings, core muscles, glutes. Stick with it and remember - a good stretching program is what will keep you doing what you want to be doing! (Yes Leesa, I know I'm a hypocrite! )

Winter - you did so well with your running! How is your current training going?

AFM - my aches and pains got worse before they got better. I'm not so sore at the moment because I've been stretching all day...But my left back is very tight. I can't get an adequate stretch... thinking massage may be required which I'm hoping isn't necessary. My plan is to go to the gym again tomorrow... wish me luck! It will be hard because it will be when HE is there... D should be there for 30 min or so but that could put me off (if he comes talking!)...I will need loads of support again I think so send me positive vibes!

MG, how did the gym go yesterday?

Winter, I might take you up on that offer sometime, maybe I'll work myself up to a jog first so I don't embarrass myself Are you running the 10k tomorrow?

    Nettie, awesome work!

Yesterday morning I did a Pilates DVD. It was great although today I'm a little stiff so did some stretching. I'm good with some clamshells now but it's still painful to do side lying leg lifts.

Tomorrow I'm planning to get on the cross trainer.

Well done on the pilaties Eluned!!! HOw did the stretching go? Hope it helped. Good luck for the xtrainer - remember to take it easy.

Thanks for asking about the gym. Yesterday was not as good as Wed. It was a little too crowded for me and D's presence was a little off putting. I felt like he was watching me the whole time and it was off putting. He came over a few times and spoke with me, checked on me, etc. When I was on the treadmill, I struggled big time and was looking for something to occupy my hands to deal with the anxiety. On the xtrainer, I could feel things tightening in my back and hip which I know was partially anxiety. On the bike, I struggled big time. I couldn't maintain same speed as last time because my knee was just so bloody painful! But I did my 40 min and left. As I was leaving, D was coming over to me to check up on me. He reminded me to stretch - I did 1 stretch and hightailed it! He didn't push because he knew I was struggling - there has to be some perks to having trained that long with him! Anyway, I was sore all night regardless of stretching when I got home. I've been sore today as well, particularly in my hamstrings and left glute. I've just had a long soak in the bath with epsom salts and done more stretching. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow - especially since I had to take extra meds today. I will try and get to the gym again tomorrow but might ease of the xtrainer tomorrow and see if that helps the hip and back. And will fiddle with seat height for bike to see if that impacts on knee. But I'm getting there. Hopefully I can continue to do this and kick some goals.

    How is everyone else doing?

Well done Nettie..the bike is addictive!

MG: Takes a while to get used to the gym cycles of people. Once you work out the quieter times, you will get a good routine happening. It might be worth going once in a while when D is not there and see how you go. You may even progress to a few classes

Eluned: Excellent with the Pilates DVD..

I have had my usualy week of Combat on Wednesday. The instructor was back, so that was great. She worked us really hard even though she couldn't go to full capacity. It was great to back into traditional combat.
I went to Attack this morning. I have finally found out what has been happening with the music thing. The clasese haven't been running on normal play lists.
This morning the Attack instructor said that there had been some copy right problem with all the Les Mills classes and Fenix (my Gym) would not allow some of the music, so they haven't been able to run whatever number they are up to as normal. Apparently Fenix have backed down and until November the Les Mills classes can run as normal with the music they have.
I am a little unsure what happend all of the sudden, not sure if the gym have to pay copyright for the music that is used by the classes??
Attack was probably the hardest it's been in a while for me. I actually got a stitch half way through, managed to work it out and keep going and it disappeard. The instructor got excited at being able to play whatever music he liked, had us doing everything, lunges included I haven't stopped today!! Got home from Attack, then went for a walk to the shops with the DH and the kids, came back and gave my Roses the July prune, came in and made cup cakes for DS1, put a couple of loads of washing on...it's been one big work out since Attack Lol!
    Have a great week everyone!

I'm sorry the second foray to the gym wasn't as successful as the first MG. Keep on going, you'll find your groove, maybe a time when its less busy & D isn't there to watch over you.
Heather, I'm jealous of your Attack session, sounds awesome! And the fact that you have all that energy to keep doing the washing, baking, pruning!!
Eluned, don't worry about embarrassing yourself, goodness, I'm so impressed with everything you do with your injury!
Leesa, what's happening with your slack client? Have you bumped her off or has she stepped up for you?
    Nettie, did you make 15mins?

I ran my 10km Womens Classic today. Was 2 degrees when we started! Took until about 7km to warm up and find a groove and then by 10km I had nothing left in me. Did it in 62.03 so 2 mins slower than last time, but I really felt out of condition this time so was quite happy with that. Still sprinted the finish, had to, there was someone in front of me to beat at the end that spurred me on. Then I came home & slept for 2 hours! Talk about knackered!!

Just popping in really quick - but Winter, you never cease to amaze me hun. I am so so proud of you!! :-D

P.S - Nup, the chic hasn't come back to me and is due to be leaving for her 'Melinda Gainsford session' late this week. I need people to at least be motivated for themselves if they can't even organise a training session and keep basic promises. I mean, how can I trust someone who after promising me they will keep me updated with their progress; doesnt. What are the chances that person will continue to do certain exercises I prescribe to them? Its not my full time job, so I only want to take on committed clients. I hope I don't sound like a cow ;-/

Heather, that's great to know. Going to push myself a bit harder now and see how I go.

MG, my hips are being quite good, although I'm noticing a niggly pain in my pubic joint with any sudden movement. It's kind of a catch 22 because the more I'm exercising, the better my hips feel but my pubic bone gets sore. If I exercise less, pubic bone is great, hips get sore! I'm super proud of you for going to the gym!!! *high five*

    Welcome rhyb!!

Well ladies right now I am on the cross trainer - love my iPhone!!! Been on for 25 minutes, done 6.6km so far. I cover up the display otherwise I just feel like it's dragging. So I have the tv on, my iPhone and a good book (lance Armstrong it's not about the bike).

If the weather is good tomorrow I'm going to walk to playgroup with kids in pram and try a bit of jogging.

Well had a dodgy night tonight. Last night I went with DF's gym junkie Rhiannon hating sister to gym and boy am I never doing that again. She whinged when I did 20minutes on the bikes (I like to do an hour of cardio) so I gave in and did weights with her (in my 20mins she did the rowing machine for 5mins, did the treadmill for like 10mins max and spent the rest of the time staring at me sweating my ass off til I gave in). She then decided I needed to work on my abs and was pretty snarky about it and I honestly couldnt do half of it cz it was hell on my ceasar scar. After the 45mins with her I was in agony close to tears and today at gym I could barely manage half an hour on the bikes due to the pain
Going to give tomorrow a miss and focus on housework and hit gym again friday methinks.

    Hello ladies :-)

Rhyb - that sounds terrible honey, Im so sorry she made you feel like that, do you usually take her with you?

MG - You are so inspirational I love it

Eluned - Im like you I cover the display too cos it does take for ever, I like to watch tv, I have found that I actually am getting to work earlier as I am getting my morning news in earlier, so thats good for me.

Leesa - You are right exercise is the BEST stress relief, cos no matter how frustrated you are you can go in and pound the pavement or punch the bag so hard that your troubles just seem to melt (or better, sweat) away!

AFM - Went to attack last night and also done another 5kms on the x-trainer this morning, loving that exercising again is making me eat properly, went to McDonalds at lunch time with my Mum and niece, but had the healthy option, didnt even feel like eating chips like I normally would. No classes at gym tonight but will be taking my fur baby down to the park for a few laps of the oval.

Oh Leesa - no offence at all! Totally ok with what you wrote! I'm sorry I haven't replied yet.

Eluned - it is a hard thing to balance. I was shown a technique for my pubic bone when it's out; DH puts his arm between my knees (fist on one side and elbow at the other) and I have to push against the arm. Oddly, it helps!

    Tan, well done!

Rhyb, take it easy and listen to your body hon. Perhaps lessen the intensity or level whilst you recover from the soreness.

Well, another night, another gym session. Tonight was busy again (not as busy as Monday though) and D was there... which put me off my game. Plus my shoulder hurts a lot. But I did 45 minutes. 20 treadmill, 10 cross trainer, 20 treadmill. I had to get off crosstrainer because it hurt my shoulder and D was watching me whilst he trained someone... and I'm not in the mood tonight.

    Keep active girls!
