    Yup - I'm in Melb...

    I think a walk would be good - it would also allow for those with injuries of varying degrees and sorts to partake. We could make it interesting. But we could also do a combination of things - so if we were meeting somewhere (and lets face it, we'd be there at least a couple of days since most people will be flying there!), we could do different activities on different days. It doesn't even have to be just walking or just running or just cycling etc. It could be something like this;

Day 1: (assuming some won't arrive until pm) Dinner and "get to know IRL"
    Day 2: Pre-breakfast brisk walk (45 min)
    Breakfast
Class held by Leesa or CQ - something like combat as we won't have equipment
    Lunch
Game of some sort (volleyball, basketball, netball, touch footy - depending on facilities etc)
    Dinner
    Who knows
    Day 3: pre-breakfast walk (anti-hangover cure ) 45 min
    Breakfast
    Cycle to sight see
    lunch
"fitness circuit" (we can use what ever is around. I have thera and resistance bands, we can use park equipment)
    Dinner

AND, if we went somewhere like Club Med, we can throw in snorkelling and other bits and bobs! PLUS those fees include flights, accom, food etc. AND we can bunk in or families can come (and do their own thing!). Just an idea off the top of my head!

Heather - totally understand about letting the class settle down. Maybe they will put more classes on? Have fun in class tomorrow! And def do a good warm up and cool down! And at thinking of Top Gun! That's better than thinking of nursery rhymes!

Leesa - def no classes yet! First, I have to prove I can do basic things like behave on the cardio equip when not supervised And considering I'm in trouble for my two short jogs... Clarification: not because I jogged but because I'm now a little sore after the treadmill belt slipped and I jarred... How is everything going with you hon? And yes - STRETCH! I can't emphasize stretching enough for everyone!

Eluned - ooooo I have a love hate relationship with the foam roller! I prefer my spike balls!

AFM - PT this morning was a wee so so. I had a few tender points where we were both worried about my back. But I'm ok. I think it was just the cold weather to be honest but D thinks it was my jog. He gave me the free pass. I will be there tomorrow hopefully. Send me positive vibes around 1845hrs Melb time girls!!!!! I'm nervous but hoping it won't be too bad. I will just stick my music on and ignore the world Otherwise I'll go Fri after work when I know D will be there....

I'm back on the fitness bandwagon.

I quit my job a month ago, and along with it I quit the gym membership because it was located at the place I worked. Anyway, now I have a job in the city and the closest bus stop to my building is about 10-15 mins walk away so I'm forced to do a lot of walking.
I only started this job on Monday and it's been raining, but when there are clear days forecast I'm planning to bring some workout clothes and briskly walk/jog around the block during my lunch hour.

AWESOME Dan! It is very cold and wet where we are at the moment but looking forward to hearing how you go in the nicer weather!

I didn't do much today... I just went to the gym... ON MY OWN!

I really didn't want to do it. I'd had a bad day at home and work and spent much of my morning in tears because of it. BUT, I didn't want to let D or CeCe down... so I went. As I drove into the car park, I saw how crowded the gym was and panicked a little. But Ce got me in. All the treadmill's along the back were in use so I went to the corner one (which suited me brilliantly!) and used that. I did 20 min on the treadmill, 10 on cross trainer and 10 on bike. My knee hated the bike but I got through it! I am so stoked! I am incredibly proud of myself (even if I do say so myself!!!!). CeCe is proud of me too! D is proud of me too!

I forgot how much I LOVE the gym! I forgot how much I LOVE the music blaring in my ears and the competivness of myself against myself! I love being out of breath without having to talk to anyone! I LOVE IT! (Until next time! )

Leesa - had I had your mobile, I would have SMS'd you too! I was SMSing Ce throughout the session! LOL

    How is everyone else doing?!

I am so so so happy to hear you got reacquainted with your love of the gym hun!!! It has bought a tear to my eye :-)

You can challenge yourself by using a heart rate monitor - weather you challenge for longer duration, higher average heart rate, calories burnt etc.....I think you've said in the past you have one?

I am so proud of you hun - you have no idea!!!!!

Hehe - already planning challenges Leesa! Aiming above certain speeds, bettering my distance in same time frame, extending time on equipment (which will be a slow one so as to avoid aggrevating injury). So exciting!

*groan* Mental Note: Practice what I preach and stretch BEFORE I leave the gym! A little owie today in hip flexor and calves (which is a new one!). Did NOT sleep well all night... I may have over done it for that duration of time...oops. I did travel a fair distance on the machines... I think D might revoke his "I trust you'll do the right thing" comment!

Thanks for all your support girls! I was busting to get home and tell you all!

MG, I am grinning from ear to ear for you! Well done hon!!!

Speaking of stretching, I need to desperately. My left hip/glute is so tight I'm feeling it 24/7. It's just from sleeping on it as I haven't done any exercise lately.

Winter, I have been meaning to ask you how you got started running. Did you work your way up with any sort of program? I'm thinking doing couch 2 5k as a starter. I started it last year got to about week 6 then stopped as I got pregnant. I'm thinking of doing on my xtrainer, low impact, indoors, can do it a night when kids are sleeping...

Hi Eluned, I got started running by joining a running group with my gym. It was a 6 week training group who met once a week with the trainers and we just ran. Before I started, we had done a 2.5km run with the circuit class that I do a couple of weeks previously and I stopped 2 or 3 times over that distance so totally not a runner! On the first week we did 2.5km and we had to do it as fast as we could as we were being timed. Took me 14 minutes but I didn't stop, that's the power of having others around you to motivate you. Then we went for another 2km run so 4.5km on the first day, but with a nice rest in the middle. Then each week the distances just crept up & up & stops to stretch fell to one in the middle of the run. By week 5 we did 9km and then week 6 another time trial over 2.5km to see if we had improved (which I was sick for but still had improved). It was really important to have a goal to work towards - 10km Challenge Stadium fun run for us - and really important to have a group of supportive people around me to keep me going.

I keep thinking about you when I run around Bibra Lake. It's 6km so easily achievable with your 5km goal in mind, and each 500m is marked around the path. With your injuries, you'd have to take it easy & not push yourself too much, but you could start by running 500m, walk a 1km, run 500m, etc if you ever wanted to have a run with me. I'm a slow coach runner too so don't think that you would cramp my style or anything. I'm here when you're ready!

If you want to do it on your own, I'm not sure what to suggest, because for me running is such a mental game, I really need to have other people / a goal in order to make myself keep running. If the C25K worked for you, then go for it, go back to it! And stretch, stretch, stretch!!!!

You gals are all so inspirational!

I just did 12 minutes on the bike, burning 60 calories. this is good because at 50 calories I thought - that will do... then I could just about see Leesa beside me saying 'you can do more!', so I burned it doing 60! Was yucky to start with but felt good by the end!

Will do it again tomorrow and will try for 15 mins and more than 65 cals..

I'll probably ache tomorrow because I have no idea what stretches to do...

Well done Nettie!!! I remember you posting a while back that you'd just done 6 minutes on the bike, NOW YOU"VE DOUBLED IT!!! and you're adding extra each time! YAY!! That's fantastic!!

Go Nettie! Awesome work! Some stretches you should do are quads (the one where you hold your ankle behind you to stretch your thigh). Also hamstrings (knees slightly bent, lean forward to touch your toes). Don't forget your calves - best way is to stand on stairs on the balls of your feet and drop your heels over the step - make sure you hold something for balance!

Eluned - I'm so excited you're wanting to run! WOOT! You go girl! But I do agree with Winter - take it SLOW! You need to build your muscles and train them to keep your pelvis stable whilst you run. I know it sounds tedious but believe me - worth it! Otherwise you set yourself back and are in pain! Need to build hip, quads, hamstrings, core muscles, glutes. Stick with it and remember - a good stretching program is what will keep you doing what you want to be doing! (Yes Leesa, I know I'm a hypocrite! )

Winter - you did so well with your running! How is your current training going?

AFM - my aches and pains got worse before they got better. I'm not so sore at the moment because I've been stretching all day...But my left back is very tight. I can't get an adequate stretch... thinking massage may be required which I'm hoping isn't necessary. My plan is to go to the gym again tomorrow... wish me luck! It will be hard because it will be when HE is there... D should be there for 30 min or so but that could put me off (if he comes talking!)...I will need loads of support again I think so send me positive vibes!

MG, how did the gym go yesterday?

Winter, I might take you up on that offer sometime, maybe I'll work myself up to a jog first so I don't embarrass myself Are you running the 10k tomorrow?

    Nettie, awesome work!

Yesterday morning I did a Pilates DVD. It was great although today I'm a little stiff so did some stretching. I'm good with some clamshells now but it's still painful to do side lying leg lifts.

Tomorrow I'm planning to get on the cross trainer.

Well done on the pilaties Eluned!!! HOw did the stretching go? Hope it helped. Good luck for the xtrainer - remember to take it easy.

Thanks for asking about the gym. Yesterday was not as good as Wed. It was a little too crowded for me and D's presence was a little off putting. I felt like he was watching me the whole time and it was off putting. He came over a few times and spoke with me, checked on me, etc. When I was on the treadmill, I struggled big time and was looking for something to occupy my hands to deal with the anxiety. On the xtrainer, I could feel things tightening in my back and hip which I know was partially anxiety. On the bike, I struggled big time. I couldn't maintain same speed as last time because my knee was just so bloody painful! But I did my 40 min and left. As I was leaving, D was coming over to me to check up on me. He reminded me to stretch - I did 1 stretch and hightailed it! He didn't push because he knew I was struggling - there has to be some perks to having trained that long with him! Anyway, I was sore all night regardless of stretching when I got home. I've been sore today as well, particularly in my hamstrings and left glute. I've just had a long soak in the bath with epsom salts and done more stretching. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow - especially since I had to take extra meds today. I will try and get to the gym again tomorrow but might ease of the xtrainer tomorrow and see if that helps the hip and back. And will fiddle with seat height for bike to see if that impacts on knee. But I'm getting there. Hopefully I can continue to do this and kick some goals.

    How is everyone else doing?

Well done Nettie..the bike is addictive!

MG: Takes a while to get used to the gym cycles of people. Once you work out the quieter times, you will get a good routine happening. It might be worth going once in a while when D is not there and see how you go. You may even progress to a few classes

Eluned: Excellent with the Pilates DVD..

I have had my usualy week of Combat on Wednesday. The instructor was back, so that was great. She worked us really hard even though she couldn't go to full capacity. It was great to back into traditional combat.
I went to Attack this morning. I have finally found out what has been happening with the music thing. The clasese haven't been running on normal play lists.
This morning the Attack instructor said that there had been some copy right problem with all the Les Mills classes and Fenix (my Gym) would not allow some of the music, so they haven't been able to run whatever number they are up to as normal. Apparently Fenix have backed down and until November the Les Mills classes can run as normal with the music they have.
I am a little unsure what happend all of the sudden, not sure if the gym have to pay copyright for the music that is used by the classes??
Attack was probably the hardest it's been in a while for me. I actually got a stitch half way through, managed to work it out and keep going and it disappeard. The instructor got excited at being able to play whatever music he liked, had us doing everything, lunges included I haven't stopped today!! Got home from Attack, then went for a walk to the shops with the DH and the kids, came back and gave my Roses the July prune, came in and made cup cakes for DS1, put a couple of loads of washing on...it's been one big work out since Attack Lol!
    Have a great week everyone!
